Headache

Headache is one of the most common complaints that those who have PTC. The headache is usually described as "one of the worst headaches" ever experienced. It can be there on waking and throughout the day. This page will try to show some of the possible headache triggers and will try to show how the headaches can be managed by non-pharmaceutical means.

To prevent a headache:

  • Watch your salt intake. Diet
  • Always wear sunglasses when outside. Choose those types of sunglasses that completely block UV-A and UV-B light.
  • Try to minimize the stress in your life.
  • Learn to say No.
  • Take a wellness journal and record your actions, your feelings and what happens to you on a daily basis. Try to determine what actions, foods or activities that might be causing you pain and try to eliminate them. This journal can also be used to document and demonstrate what has happened to you between office visits when you go to your doctors. (for example activities which cause you stress)
  • When headache pain attacks try these simple methods for stopping the pain:

  • Place an Ice Bag on your head or neck for a few minutes at a time.
  • Place a heating pad on neck or head. If this works try wearing a cap or other clothing to keep your head warm.
  • Close your eyes and gently massage the temple area with your fingers.
  • Get a back or neck massage.
  • Close the shades and dim the lights in the room. Stay away from florescent lamps.
