How to get Medical Journal Articles

This page explains how to access information on PTC in the form of medical journal articles. A general search for pseudotumor in the database will result in over 2000 journal articles. On this web site, those individuals who are experts in the disease will be highlighted. These individuals have spent years studying and researching the disease. By starting with the experts, the number of articles will be limited and while the information is relevant and useful the cost of retrieving the articles will not be prohibitive.

In order to get publications from the National Library of Medicine it is necessary to register with Loansome Doc and to establish a contact with a local medical library. The instructions for can be found through the Free Medline homepage. There are two columns of information on this page. In the pubmed column select the Loansome Doc link which explains how to register.

Once you have established your registration the search is through: Pubmed. In order to perform the search criteria are inserted into the pubmed search window. The general search set up will include the AUthoring doctors name and the selection code of pseudotumor cerebri. For example to retrieve Dr. Wall's publications enter the following in the search window:

After performing a search you will get a page of hyperlinked publications. If you select the link, you will get an abstract, or condensed version of the information on the page. After reading the abstracts, select those publications that you wish to receive by using the check-off boxes. After selecting all the publication you wish to receive, click on the button for Loansome Doc. You will be charged to obtain these copies by a rate which is set by the library that was selected.
