As God Is My Witness

I Am His

      Those of you who really know me will not be surprised by this page of my web site. While it’s not something I shout from the rooftops, or something I even say often enough, I am a Christian.

      I offer no apology for this, just as I never try to shove my beliefs on anyone in person. I don’t demand that you read this page, but only pray that you will do so.

      I wish I could profess to be the best Christian I know how to be, but that wouldn’t true. I’m far from where I should be in my walk with the Lord; but I know that He knows my heart. He knows that I thank Him daily for the many things He has made possible in my life.

      I don’t understand how people can say there is no God. How can one look at the world, at the universe, and doubt His existence? I see His touch in the flowers that bloom in the spring. I hear His voice in a newborn baby’s cry. I see His love in beautiful clouds, in sparkling still waters of lakes, in rainbows at the edges of storms, and in the infinite, breathtaking display of stars. Thus, I could never doubt His existence.

      I’m here on this earth today, when so many of my friends and family are gone by His grace. I have a beautiful daughter and loving friends. I have overcome great health problems. I see all these blessings as signs of His mercy.

      To Him goes the glory and my humble thanks for all that I am, and all that I shall yet be, that is good in my life. I strive daily to do what He wants of me; and though I often fail in those efforts, He always forgives my failings and never once has failed me.

When I say, “I am a Christian”

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I’m not shouting, “I am saved;”
      I'm whispering “I was lost!”
        That is why I chose this way."

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I don’t speak of this with pride;
      I’m confessing that I stumble,
        And need someone to be my guide.

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I’m not trying to be strong;
      I’m professing that I’m weak,
        And pray for strength to carry on.

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I’m not bragging of success;
      I’m admitting I have failed,
        And cannot ever pay the debt.

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I’m not claiming to be perfect;
      My flaws are too visible,
        But God believes I’m worth it.

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I still feel the sting of pain;
      I have my share of heartaches,
        Which is why I seek His name.

      When I say, “I am a Christian,”
        I do not wish to judge;
      I have no authority,
        I only know I’m loved.
