Depression is an illness that affects the lives of millions of people.  I am one of them.  I have been struggling with depression for as long as I can remember. Like many others, I have been hospitalized in psychiatric units, have attempted suicide, am in therapy, and on medications. There are times when I can't stop crying, and others when I am not able to cry at all.  But I have learned that it is ok to cry - it helps in the cleansing of our wounds.
Surprisingly, as many people as there are who suffer from this illness, there remain to be people who do not understand how painful and disabling it can be.  That is part of the reason I have created this site, in hope that it will help more people understand us.  There are many who say to us, "Snap out of it and move on with your life," or "I was depressed too, and I got over it - why can't you?"  First of all, depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain.  It is an illness, just like Diabetes or any other "physical" illness.  I wouldn't expect someone who has Diabetes to just "snap out of it."   The person who has Diabetes didn't ask for his or her illness, just as we who suffer from Depression didn't ask for ours.
This site is for everyone, whether you suffer from Depression or not.  The main focus is support.  I want to help people know they are not alone in their journey of healing.  Creating this site is very difficult for me to do, but it helps me tremendously, knowing that I can make a difference in others' lives. On this page, you will find lots of information and resources.  Remember that we are all survivors - we've made it this far, and we can continue to survive, with the support of one another.  You are never alone!
