O.S.Ae. is a religious Order which accepts people of all sexual orientations and ordains women and men to the holy priesthood to serve the spiritual (and sometimes temporal) needs of God's children. They live according to the Rule of the Order under its Constitution. After the novitiate, candidates may be admitted to the vows of Charity, Obedience and Fidelity. The community attempts to live in Friendship as described by St. Aelred (1110-1167) in his well-known works on love and friendship. O.S.Ae. is incorporated as a religious society in the Philippines. The society has its own unique preparatory school, St. Aelred Seminary for candidates with a vocation to serve as priests. It is demanding, but not impossible, and accepting, not rejecting. The Center for the Study of Spirituality and Sexuality (CSSS) embraces a variety of services and works. Through its telephone hotline, many people are able to seek help for problems related to their sexuality, coming out, and being gay and lesbian and Christian. Members of CSSS take part in Gay Men's Support Groups, Spiritual Support Groups, human rights advocacy, social services, and seminars. O.S.Ae. also has a library which is often utilized by university students from throughout the area as well as by the Order's own candidates. It also has a collection of works on the life and writings of St. Aelred, the 12th century abbot, scholar, writer, and patron of the Order. |
