The Works of the Order of St. Aelred (O.S.Ae.)
Educational Activities:
- discussions, workshops, seminars on a wide variety of topics to health, wholeness and growth
- specialization in the areas of spirituality and sexuality, but including many related subjects such as wholistic health, the Bible and homosexuality, and a sane and sensible positive sexual theology in general
- seminary studies in St. Aelred Seminary (SAS) leading to ordination to the priesthood for men and women who have an acknowledged calling to bring God and people together in a unification of spirituality and sexuality
- religious and pastoral studies in St. Aelred Religious Studies Institute (SARSI)
Social and Personal Enhancement Programs:
- Gay Men’s Support Group (GMSG) for friendship and mutual support
- same-sex couple's groups for improving relationships
- social and recreational events associated with growth groups
Religious Life:
- living a monastic life in the modern world. St. Aelred Monastery is for those men and women who experience a calling to work, pray, and study in a community without discrimination while carrying on a ministry of service as a priest or religious. For us, this is "economically necessary" a third-order concept of religious life.
- providing sacramental support for those who turn to the community
- officiating at same-sex Holy Unions for those who find this sacramental expression beneficial for the commitment and stability of their relationship
- following its motto, "On earth as it is in heaven," imitating the holiness of Jesus, fully human (eating with sinners, getting a massage, enjoying a wedding, telling Good News, crying, praying, suffering pain, helping the needy, being a friend to women and men), as he lived a model life of "human" holiness, while yet divine, as depicted in the gospels
- gaining inspiration from the humanistic writings on love and friendship bequeathed to us by St. Aelred
Publication:
- publishing through the Internet and through books and pamphlets
- making information available to as many as are interested in its wholistic approach to life and its sex-positive sexual theology
