Place/Area Reasons why you should go there

Price factor

Redhill Close Market

Off Redhill Close, opposite Redhill MRT. Near the wet market.

Redhill MRT is only 4 stops from town. Not too expensive to get there via train. By bus, we have 132, 33, 63 and 64. I think there are other buses but I simply can't remember. :P

Easy to get there. A good range of buses as well as the Redhill MRT nearby <duh>.

Personally, we love the hawker food there:

  1. BBQ Stingray <sedap chilli>
  2. Dessert!!!!!
  3. Laksa (w/extra cockles)
  4. Fried Carrot Cake

In case you all are wondering, they are all at the same column/segment, all these 4 stalls. Email us if you want further clarifications.

Food's cheap there.

The BBQ Stingray is not the cheapest food to eat there but truly a value for money. At least a good $2-3 cheaper than elsewhere for the same amounts. The same stall sells satay and BBQ chicken wings! <yum yum>

Dessert is the best deal I would say. Generous helpings of good variety of local desserts starting from $0.80 (Chng Teng).

Laksa starts from $2 with chicken meat and cockles.

Fried Carrot Cake (Black or White) starts at $1.50 even though we often order the $2 portion.

EDO Sushi @ Cineleisure 2nd level.

You won't get lost. It's inside a building behind/near Mandarin hotel. (:

You can either walk from Somerset MRT or Orchard MRT. <but I think Somerset MRT is nearer>

Pleasant and bright ambience. Not spooky or creepy. Bright white lights with contemporary music played. They have got a great view if you actually bother to look out. (:

Spicky clean area. Free flow of Japanese Green tea and facial towel.

Okay, here comes the food!!!! The best chawamushi in town, or if not, in SINGAPORE!!!! Go try the soft-shell crab (fried) and fried tofu dish dipped in sauce and dried cuttlefish shavings! Yum Yum! @~@

Sushi isn't that great, but beats Cold Storage ones because Cold Storage sushi has strunk. Sashimi is basically quite fresh! No complaints at all.

Udon starts at an affordable price.

It is not the cheapest place to eat though. Jap food is never cheap!!!! Be prepared to spend at least $15 per head to get a satisfying meal.

It's still a cheap Japanese outlet compared if you were to go to those posh and not so delicious Japanese restaurants. We reckon that we save at least 30%.

If you are in a budget, can just eat a bowl of Udon @$7.90 I think. Chawamushi is a must-try @ $2.50 per cup.

Boon Lay Place Kopitiam @ Boon Lay Shopping Complex

Bus 99 goes there, and so does other feeder buses from Boon Lay Interchange that we can't be bothered to find out.

It's 24-hours open... almost.

Go to the Kopitiam if you are there for really late supper at around 11pm or later because the hawker centre is closed.

The Chinese stall serves good hor fun and such. Sometimes you may get lucky with turtle soup and Kuey Chap.

The prata at the Indian stall is not best in Singapore but rather edible and no complaints at all.

There are a few noodles stall whose food is edible.

Oh yeah, there is the Ke Ai Ji (literally translated cute chicken) which serves great grilled or fried chicken. Better than KFC and a lot cheaper. Try their tender juicy fried spring chicken.

Prata is filling and cheap @ $0.50 per piece. Be careful not to get those that are fried earlier and kept there pending sale. I always eat 2-3 pratas for dinner/supper because it is economical. Not too often though... Imagine all the ghee swimming in your tummy.

A small bowl of turtle soup @ $5/- Not too big a portion but nutritious. (: The same stall serves Beef hor fun and other hor fun from $3/-. Mainly cooked Hong Kong food. Their Kuey Chap is not too bad.

Ki Ai Ji has the fried spring chicken at around $5.60.

Jurong Point @ Boon Lay MRT/Interchange

You can get there by train or bus that goes west to Boon Lay! <duh>

There are actually 2 foodcourts. The one at the basement sells purely halal food, the one at the 3rd floor at the new wing sells everything else.Wide variety of food.

There are cafe-like places like Bubble-Tea, Delifrance, Spinnellis and others we have not been to.

Got fast-food restaurants too, everything except BK that you can think of. Taco-Bell is coming soon.

Great grocery shopping there! Got the largest NTUC in Singapore (and some more so damn crowded) and Liberty! Hee!

There is also a movie theatre to complete everything and 2 game arcades.

The main reason why we go there is because it's near school and convenient loh.

Prices there are quite high, comparable to town foodcourt prices. The prices suck actually... or else it is quite a good place. :P

Can always eat fast food mah, then later go watch movie etc etc.

Then can go there and shop for clothes as they have both men's and women's boutiques.

Did I mention Popular Book Store?

City Hall Cold Storage @ <duh> City Hall MRT lah!

We used to like the sashimi and sushi there. But not anymore since the portions for sushi strunk! They have the best Cheesecake (fluffy type) in town. It's a separate store inside Cold Storage itself.

It's the same cheesecake mentioned earlier in the diary. (:

Cheapest @ $7.50 and best cheesecake in town may I say! The fluffy type lah. The lightest and freshly baked ones! Now comes in heart shapes and other flavours. We like the original flavour best! <sedap>
Bugis Junction @ Bugis MRT <duh> Coffee bean, coffee connection, java beans and other cafes.

We love the Mos Burger there..... all the food!!!

Best is still the Takoyaki balls (japanese balls) there! They have a branch at Takashimaya but we both feel that Bugis branch tastes best!

Takoyaki balls @ 3 for $2. They have good peach tea too. Cheap @ $1.40 per cup
Chai Chee Kopitiam @ Chai Chee Street

It's outside the Singapore Post Building.

Buses 222 and 229 ply this road. You can take them from Bedok Interchange or outside Bedok MRT station.

They got the Jalan Kayu taste-alike prata which is comparable to the real Jalan Kayu one. Can try it.

They have the Chinese Rojak which consists of neo hiang, treated cuttlefish, century eggs etc etc. It's good and cheap. Worth a try.

The laksa there is good too. The gravy is thicker than most.

They also have the funny hokkien mee which they use thick beehoon rather than yellow mee to fry actually.

The Cha Kway Tiao is edible... Standard kind of drop though. :|

Plus point: It is open 24 hours. (:

The prata is small though, I think 4 will keep one full. Unless you are going for a snack only. It goes well with the sourish curry sauce. Prata @ $0.60.

Chinese Rojak pieces vary in price. It's cheaper than most other stalls you may find elsewhere.

The Hokkien Mee and Cha Kway Tiao starts at $3/-.

Hans Restaurants @ their outlets:

Far East Plaza; Cineleisure; Marina Square; Park Mall

This is one homegrown restaurant which offers a really good value for money.

They offer a good range of set meals mentioned above. Grilled fish, Chicken, Sirloin steak, Black Pepper steak, Pork Chops and Fish and Chip.

Eating there always makes me happily full and bloated. (:

Also, they have one of the better pastries/cakes in Singapore.

For a 3-course meal plus drink, it ranges from $7.80 onwards.

Their cakes and pastries are priced reasonably and cheaply

A big plus point: They definitely don't overcharge!! So you can eat in peace!
