SUNDAY 20 AUGUST 2007: Greetings again. It is with some great sadness to announce that this will be the last update for a long while on this specific website. Most of the updates I've done for Webpages of JOHN ROEVER has been with my iMac, using PageMill (please don't laugh...I know it's an old and antiquated software...but it's been dependable). I have decided to sell my old iMac, which is very old since I first got it in August 2001. I've made some final tweeks and modifications to the pages of this site before I get rid of my iMac. Anyway, most of the current updates in my life will be with the other sites, particuarly the Blog of JOHN ROEVER, as well as my Flickr photo site, which is growing in the number of images. TUESDAY 10 JULY 2007: Greetings again. It's been nearly six months since I introduced the diversification of online content. Most of my frequent updates have on my blog, which included KU's season and Tournament run (which unfortunately ended short of reaching the Final Four), trips to Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Puerto Rico, and numerous updates on my wonderful girlfriend. I've added many new images on my Flickr site. And I've uploaded several home videos on my YouTube site, including many videos of landing and takeoffs from my several flights in the last couple of years. I'm including only a few alterations to my Geocities site. I encourage to check out my other three sites containing various content and media...the links are located to the right. SUNDAY 14 JANUARY 2007: I'm proud to announce a diversification of new online content for 2007. Though I did create some of these sites a few months back, I haven't organized them until now. From now on, my original website here on GeoCities will still be my online foundation - providing updates on KU Basketball and basic information/links pertinent to my life. But as far as new and updated content, I will be utilizing three different websites:
I hope you enjoy these other websites. I would like to add a few words, since I haven't updated this website since summer of 2006. Since my last update, I've had my late summer/autumn vacation up to Fargo and Minnesota, as a 10-year commemoration of my first trip to Fargo to start my career. I also spent two weeks in November in Chicago for business (brutal trip). I watched the KU football team have an up and down season, finishing 6-6 but not qualifying for a bowl. I watched the KC Chiefs also have an up and down season, finishing 9-7 and squeeking into the playoffs (where they got embarrassed by Indy). And unfortunately, my Granny from England (my only remaining Grandparent) passed away between Christmas and New Year's. But the most significant and happiest thing to have happened since my last update was meeting my new girlfriend, Therese. She's a wonderful and super gal! Anyway, hope you enjoy the updates and additions of the other websites. And I will certainly try to keep updated on my Kansas Jayhawks, who are now 15-2 after defeating the Cyclones this afternoon. WEDNESDAY 9 AUGUST 2006: Once again, I've been busy with work and staying cool...and doing a rather pathetic job in updating this website. In my last update, I was geared up for England playing in the quarterfinals in the World Cup. Well, after two scoreless halves and two scoreless overtime periods, England and Portugal went to penalty kicks. Unfortunately, Portugal won 3-1 in the shootout, and thus advancing to the semis and ending England's quest for the Cup. Sucks royally...and it doesn't help that Wayne Rooney got a red card and was kicked out of the game (nice stomping of some guy's jewels). But at least he didn't lose it as bad as Zidane in the Finals with his now infamous headbutt. Well, at least France lost that game. Since my last update in June, I've been on two different business trips. The first was a quick trip to Fresno in late June. The latest one was a week-long trip to Houston in late July. I will never gripe about humidity here in Kansas City...it can never compare to the humidity down there. I was fortunate to see an Astros game at Minute Maid Park during my trip...and I got to see Roger Clemens start (unfortunately, Astros lost that night). I added a couple of photos from the game here on the Main page. Speaking of baseball, Royals still stink. As of yesterday, KC is 38-73, with a .342 winning average, and are at least 37 games behind division-leading Detroit. Well, at least the Chiefs are in training camp now, their preseason games will start later this month, and KU Football will start their season on 2 September against Northwestern State. It's nearly two months until Late Night at the Phog...and the start of another Basketball season. This upcoming season should be a dandy! I'll finish this update by saying how much I'm already sick of this bloody summer. This July was the 2nd warmest July in the US. It's early August, and we've already had a handful of 100+ degree days here in KC. Ugh! I can't wait 'til autumn finally arrives...and this heat can shift southward. I won't have another update until after I come back from Vegas...one of my best friends is getting married early this month, and I'll be flying out there for the ceremony. And oh yeah...gas isn't getting cheaper! Wiith tensions dealing with Iran, the conflict in northern Israel, and some leaky pipeline in Alaska, gas at the nearby station is currently at $3.09/gallon. Let's hope we don't have a major hurricane this year! SUNDAY 25 JUNE 2006: Greetings and salutations...summer officially arrived last week. Thankfully, the temperatures haven't been consistently hot here in Kansas City...a few days of 90s here and there. What we need is more rain, though we did have a couple of heavy downpours over the weekend. People in other parts of Kansas are needing the rain too, especially for wheat and other crops. It's been a great month to watch soccer...and especially great that England is advancing in the World Cup. In Group B play, England beat Paraguay 1-0, then defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-0, but unfortunately had to settle for a draw against Sweden 2-2. Nevertheless, England came out #1 in Group B, and advanced to the Round of 16. Today, England defeated Ecuador 1-0. England now advances to the quarterfinals, and will play Portugal on 1 July. Go England!!! I can't believe that June is almost done...I will actually be going out to California on a business trip during the week. Hopefully, the flights and the whole trip go well, so I can return back to KC and enjoy the England match and the upcoming Fourth of July weekend. By the way, Royals still stink...they already have 50 losses this season. They have improved their play after getting a new GM and a successful trade...but it will take a long time for this franchise to rebuild. Again, GO ENGLAND!! FRIDAY 9 JUNE 2006: It's been more than two months since my last update in March, which involved the sudden early exit of KU in the tournament. I think I'm over the stinging loss to Bradley now. And with summer now here, until football and basketball come back in the fall, I can root for my local Major League Baseball team here in Kansas City. Ouch! I only wish the Royals were a decent team or an average team....but they can't even do that. They clearly have the worst record in the majors, and they're making a push for setting the record for most losses in a season. I hope it doesn't happen...but the way they play, I won't be surprised if it does happen. My favorite English Premier team, Arsenal, had a good run in the Champions League, before losing to Barcelona in the Finals in May. Thankfully, the World Cup starts today in Germany...and will last until early July. I will be rooting for my native land of England...and I really hope they go far!! I've been a bit busy with work and with sprucing up my townhouse, which included some interior painting of my lower level during the Memorial Day holiday. And I decided to take a late spring road trip in mid-May to Minnesota and Wisconsin. I had never been up there for vacation in May, so it was a nice break from my usual September vacations up there...and I figured I can drive up there while gas was still under $3.00 a gallon (and thankfully, it hasn't reached that high here in Kansas City yet...hopefully there won't be another hurricane or something worse that happens this summer to cause prices to further soar). The main highlight of the trip was a visit to Taliesin in Wisconsin, and taking the Highlights Tour (interior tours of the Taliesin House and Hillside School). I also visited Cedar Rock in Iowa, the Field of Dreams movie site in Iowa, the Leinie brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and the Twin Cities. Not much else to add...other than it's starting to warm up here in Kansas City. The high reached around 90 degrees yesterday...and it's forecast to get warmer today. I'm very bummed that The Sopranos sixth season is finished...it had just started during my last update in March. Now I have to wait until next year to catch the final eight episodes! Oh, one last thing...I got to see Dave Matthews Band in concert here in Kansas City on 31 May. It was my sixth DMB concert. Despite sitting on the soggy wet lawn, the weather during the actual concert was nearly perfect, and DMB put on a brilliant show like usual!!! MONDAY 20 MARCH 2006: KU's season is over. The Jayhawks seemed to have momentum in these last couple of weeks, especially after winning the Big 12 Conference Tournament. KU seemed ready for a great run in the NCAA Tournament...all they had to do was start off with a victory over Bradley on St Patrick's Day... Worst...St Patricks Day...ever. The #4 seeded Kansas lost to #13 seeded Bradley last Friday, 73-77. And for the second consecutive year, KU goes out in the first round of the Tourney. And just like that...the season is finished. However, to put it in perspective...this was a very young team that struggled early on...struggled so much that there were doubts they'd even reach the postseason. But the Jayhawks grew up during conference play, and ended up sharing the conference season title, and then winning the conference post-season tournament. They still finished with a great 25-8 record. And these young Jayhawks will come back, with more experience and hopefully with some extra motivation to excel next season. But I'll have to wait for nearly seven months until Late Night at the Phog in Allen Fieldhouse...a long seven months until next season...ugh. As I'm composing this on Monday night, the KC area is forecast for one last snow storm...unbelieveable, especially since tomorrow is the first day of Spring. SUNDAY 12 MARCH 2006: Today is Sunday 12 March...a day I've been looking forward to primarily because it is Selection Sunday, and tonight's season premiere of one of my all-time favorite TV shows, The Sopranos. First off, today started stormy. Though my home wasn't affected here in Olathe, areas to the north and west of me were hit hard by strong storms. As I'm getting ready to finalize this page, we're still in a tornado watch here in the KC metro area. I hope it's not a sign of a things to come this spring. But enough about weather...Congratulations to the Kansas Jayhawks - Big 12 Conference Tournament champions for 2006. It was payback time for KU, after a humiliating defeat in Austin two weeks ago. The Jayhawks beat Texas, 80-68. The game went back and forth several times, until late in the 2nd half when KU pulled away. It was such a great victory for these young Jayhawks! After the game, it was finally Selection Sunday. KU was named a #4 seed in the Oakland region of the NCAA Tournament, and will be playing #13 seed Bradley on Friday night. I will need to wrap this up, since The Sopranos will be starting in minutes. After nearly two years, a new episode will finally premiere. Oh, I had a decent time in Chicago....experienced mostly gloomy weather, but got some interesting photos from my trip, which I hope to publish here in my next few updates later on. SATURDAY 4 MARCH 2006: Since my last update, KU unfortunately lost to Texas, 55-80. A bit of a thumping against a very good Longhorn team. However, the Jayhawks finished the regular season strong, beating Colorado 75-54 on Wednesday, and today KU defeated Kansas State, 66-52. It was a tough game, with the Wildcats coming back in the 2nd half. But Kansas now ends the regular season with a 22-7 overall record, and a 13-3 conference record. KU can do no worse than share the Big 12 Conference title! Pretty amazing what has happened in the last month and a half...and also helps that Texas A&M beat Texas a few days ago. Texas won't play until Sunday...but unfortunately, I won't be able to update this site until next weekend, since I will be in Chicago on a business trip. Congrats to the Kansas Jayhawks for another Big 12 title! THURSDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2006: The winning streak for the Kansas Jayhawks is now at 10 games. KU defeated Baylor two days ago, 76-61. I actually went to the game on Tuesday, as you can see from the image of Allen Fieldhouse's scoreboard above. Though the game seemed a bit sluggish for a bit, it was still a victory, giving KU it's 20th win for the season, and keeping them at the top of the Big 12 conference standings. Also, KU's rankings have improved...#16 in the AP poll, #18 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. It all sets up a great game in two days in Austin, when the Jayhawks play the Texas Longhorns. Though there are still two games afterward in conference play, Saturday's game can pretty much decide who will win the Big 12 conference title. Good luck KU! MONDAY 20 FEBRUARY 2006: Kansas 79 - mizzou 46. Enough said. Actually, there's more to be said than just that brilliant score. KU extends its winning streak to nine games, they improve to 19-6 overall and 10-2 in the Big 12 conference. Some thanks should go out to Oklahoma State...they upset Texas on Sunday afternoon. Texas drops its conference record to 10-2, and is now tied with Kansas for first place. This further elevates the importance of this coming Saturday's game between the Jayhawks and Longhorns. Winter came back for a brief moment here in KC. Temps got down to close to zero on Friday and Saturday nights...but thankfully, there will be a warmup in a couple of days. THURSDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2006: I have to start out with my Kansas Jayhawks. On Monday, they finally cracked the Top 25 poll for the first time this season, entering in at #22. Then later that night, they played a rough but convincing game at Oklahoma State, beating the Cowboys 64-49. KU's winning streak is now at eight. The Jayhawks improved to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in Big 12 Conference play, still at second place and one game behind first place Texas. KU's next game will be against misery, also known as mizzou, also known as missouri. And speaking of missouri, I forgot to mention this in my last update, but mizzou's head coach Quin Snyder quit last Friday. What really stinks is that his last win as a missouri coach was against Kansas. Anyway, hopefully KU thumps mizzou this weekend. I'm actually typing this on a Wednesday night where it's in the mid 30s here in Kansas City. Two days ago on Tuesday, KC hit a high of 66. Tomorrow, Thursday, we're forecast to have rain and freezing drizzle turning into freezing rain. Ah, the wonder of wildly fluctuating weather here in KC. SUNDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2006: Winter finally came back for a brief moment here in Kansas City. It snowed just a bit over the weekend...and the temperatures got back to "normal" for winter. But in a few short days it will be warm and mild again. The Winter Olympic Games started on Friday in Torino (or Turin, or whatever it's called), Italy. I can't believe it's been four years since I attended the last Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. It brings back such great memories. The Kansas Jayhawks beat Iowa State yesterday , 88-75. It's KU's seventh straight win, and keeps them at 2nd place in the Big 12, 1 game behind 1st place Texas. The Jayhawks are now at 17-6, and by some projections are a possible #6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Maybe this coming Monday, KU will finally enter the Top 25 rankings...but we'll see. One last item...farewell to Arrested Development. One of the few shows on broadcast television, or for that matter any television, that I truly enjoyed watching. Because of low ratings and obviously no interest from the networks, their season finale, and possibly series finale, was this last Friday. It's ashame that such a great show dies a horrible death, and TV can continue to show such vile crap (I'm talking to you reality shows). WEDNESDAY 8 FEBRUARY 2006: It's already early February, and this is only my second update of 2006. Kind of pathetic on my part, so I will work on updating this site a little more often. I did manage to get a photo from my Las Vegas trip last month. When I get a chance, I may put up some more photos from the trip. The trip itself was okay, although I hope the next time I go to Vegas it will be for leisure only and not for business. Though I did manage to get some fun time during the trip, I had too much work to get done during the trip. Last month was the warmest January in Kansas City. I can't believe how mild most of this winter has been here in KC...although it looks like it may become more season-like in temperature this week. My Jayhawks are playing very well now. After discouraging losses to Kansas State and mizzou, KU has now won five straight, including a great come-from-behind victory over the Sooners. KU is now in 2nd place in the Big 12 Conference. It's starting to look like KU will eventually play in this year's Tournament. SATURDAY 31 DECEMBER 2005: Today is New Year's Eve...and the last day of 2005. It's been an interesting year for both myself and the world. I had two seperate promotions during the year, travelled to Texas and Chicago for business, and had a wonderful September vacation in Minnesota. In the world, mother nature seemed pissed. In early 2005, people were still recovering from the Asian Tsunami, then came the most intense hurricane season ever (including a devastating hurricane named Katrina that slammed the Gulf Coast), and then a powerful earthquake hit in India/Pakistan. The war in Iraq is continuing, and terror is still a threat to the civilized world...with London being the most prominent location this year with a series of deadly bombings in July. Hopefully as we enter a new year in just a few hours, with most of the Eastern Hemisphere already in the new year, mother nature will be a bit kinder to us mortals. And hopefully, us mortals will be a bit kinder to each other. And not just in terms of war and terror, but in overall attitudes toward each other. I know that sounds like a "pipedream", but a person can always wish, and think it's possible to be attained...even if it's for a few hours into the new year. Though it's late for this season, I'm including a link to my annual Christmas letter. It just highlights the major events that have occured over the last year. One last item....congrats to KU for winning the Fort Worth Bowl on 23 December, defeating Houston. Jayhawks finish their 2005 football season at 7-5. KU Basketball is steadily improving, now at 7-4. I wish all of you a happy and safe 2006. MONDAY 12 DECEMBER 2005: Once again, it has been a very long time since my last update. A lot has happened since 31 August, the date of my last update...I had my major vacation of the year, up to Minnesota. I hiked four different state parks near Duluth and the North Shore of Lake Superior, attended the wedding of one of my closest friends. I also went to see my two favorite bands in concert here in Kansas City (seperated by only a couple of weeks)...Dave Matthews Band and Coldplay. And most significantly...I got a major promotion in my company. I also hosted my second Thanksgiving for my family. A lot has happened elsewhere...Hurricane Katrina just struck the Gulf Coast when I sent out my last update...the region is still recovering from that horrific and powerful storm. Two more major hurricanes struck the US...Rita and Wilma. There was a major earthquake in Pakistan and India. KU hadn't started their football season when I had my last update. After going 3-0, KU had some stumbles, including on offense. But KU finished strong, winning 3 of their last 4 games, including big games against Missouri, Nebraska (their first in 36 years...and KU's first victory over Huskers in my lifetime), and Iowa State. KU finished the regular season at 6-5, and are bowl eligible! The basketball season has already started. After a nice season opener against Idaho State (a game I attended), KU faced tough compeition in Maui, and have lost some close games, including one against Nevada at Allen Fieldhouse. KU finally had a good win, over California. The Jayhawks are now 4-4. Oh, one last thing...you may have noticed a change in the web page layout. I decided to tweek the layout a bit. MONDAY 15 AUGUST 2005: It's been a very long time since I've updated this site...nearly four months. The last update was shortly after KU's sudden and quick loss in the NCAA Tournament in late March. A lot has happened in the last four months. For me personally, I've dealt with some serious news concerning my family. It is something I can't really mention specifically...but it is something that has brought our family closer together (not to say that we weren't close before). I've gone on five trips since
my last update, two of them to Chicago. I spent a week in Chicago
in early June, and visited many Frank Lloyd Wright houses/buildings.
I finally got to see a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. In fact, I've
seen two Cubs games this season: one in April, when it got a
bit chilly toward the end of the game, and one in early June. On 7 July, cowardly terrorists struck my homeland...killing 52 people in the London transport network (resulted in numerous injuries as well). Thankfully none of my relatives or friends was in London that day. My prayers and condolences go out to those affected by those wicked terrorist acts...and I've decided to put a little banner on the main page in remembrance of those affected. Concerning sports, the Jayhawks underwent a massive change, notably the loss of four seniors, including Wayne Simien (who was drafted by Miami in the NBA Draft in June). But also, J.R. Giddens is no longer a Jayhawk, due to several reasons, including a nasty incident at a Lawrence bar in the spring. The Royals are playing badly (and that's a massive understatement)...in fact they've changed managers since my last update. As I'm posting this latest update, the Royals have lost a franchise record 15 straight games. This is making me long for the upcoming football season. I'm hoping for a great season for the Chiefs and at least a return to the playoffs. Also hoping for a better season for KU's football team. It probably will be awhile until my next update...due to enjoying the rest of the summer, and preparation for my late summer/early autumn vacation up to Minnesota. SUNDAY 20 MARCH 2005: COMMENT NOT INCLUDED YET TUESDAY 15 MARCH 2005: I had my trip to San Antonio last week. Spent most of the week attending meetings for my work...but still managed to enjoy time along the Riverwalk. I did get to visit The Alamo again (first time was last April). As you can see, I did manage to get a photo of myself with The Alamo in the background. The weather was so nice down there...wish I can say the same for KC. We're now in that stupid transition period where it can be either nice and spring-like, or revert to wintery conditions. TUESDAY 1 MARCH 2005: COMMENT NOT INCLUDED YET TUESDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2005: Happy February. Whoopee and such. I'll keep this short and sweet....Kansas 73 - missouri 61. Enough said. (By the way, KU jumped up in both polls, now at #3). SUNDAY 30 JANUARY 2005: January is almost done....and I can't wait 'til spring arrives. No more major ice storms in KC since the one storm hit on the first week of this month, though we did get a brief wet snow earlier this weekend. With a heavy workload at work (and some busy work around my home), I've been a bit lazy in not updating the website in the last few weeks. And since my last update more than two weeks ago, KU went 4-1. After defeating Colorado and Nebraska, the Jayhawks got somewhat embarrassed at Villanova, losing their first game 62-83. But maybe that loss was a wakeup call...and KU has won its last two games, including a convincing victory over Texas last night, 90-65. KU is the only undefeated team in the Big 12, at 6-0. THURSDAY 11 JANUARY 2005: It's not even haflway through January...and I'm already sick of winter. All this week it's been dreary here in Kansas City, with the precipitation being either rain, freezing rain, freezing drizzle, or sleet. THURSDAY 6 JANUARY 2005: COMMENT NOT INCLUDED YET MONDAY 20 DECEMBER 2004: It is less than a week until Christmas Day. I have a feeling that it won't be a White Christmas here in Kansas City, even though it is getting cooler, and tomorrow is the first day of winter. Some quick sports updates: The Jayhawks are still #2 in the country, even after a very close win over South Carolina over the weekend. KU is now 7-0. And the Chiefs are getting closer to .500 for the season (now 6-8), after pounding the Broncos yesterday here in KC. Too bad they didn't play that well in the early part of the season. You may notice a new photo on this page, showing Christmas lights from The Country Club Plaza here in KC. And I'm sure you noticed to the left links to my Christmas Letter for 2004. This year I decided to make two different formats (JPG and PDF file) for the letter. This will probably be the last update before the 25th, so I'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. MONDAY 13 DECEMBER 2004: COMMENT NOT INCLUDED YET FRIDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2004: COMMENT NOT INCLUDED YET MONDAY 8 NOVEMBER 2004: COMMENT NOT INCLUDED YET MONDAY 4 OCTOBER 2004: I have been very busy since my last update nearly three months ago (9 July). I finally moved into my new house, although I still haven't completely unpacked. I've had to travel to Arkansas for business...twice. I spent a week in the Twin Cities for business (but managed to visit the Minnesota State Fair and get a bunch of stuff at their new IKEA store). I also spent about a half week in northern Minnesota for my summer vacation...a very late one, considering it was around mid to late September. In August, I went to my fourth Dave Matthews Band concert at Verizon Wireless Amp. in KCK (and it was probably the best one I've seen yet). And when I wasn't sleeping or eating, I've been busy at work, trying to wrap up some major projects. Some other developments...the Royals finally ended their pathetic season this last weekend, ending up losing 104 game (their worst ever). I thought the Chiefs' season would ease the anguish of the Royals' season...unfortunately, the Chiefs have started the season 0-3 (and hopefully it won't be 0-4 after they play Baltimore on Monday Night). KU started 2-0 in football and looked pretty decent. However, the last three games have been painful...Jayhawks have lost these three by a combined total of 10 points. Ugh! Thankfully, KU Basketball will be starting later this fall. And speaking of fall...Yeah...It's finally my favorite season!!! And finally, the Presidential campaign is now in its final month. In the eight years that I've had a personal website, I've never expressed any political concerns or opinions. Well, I feel compelled to express them now, since this is turning out to be a very important election. And that is why I'd like to express my support for John Kerry for President. FRIDAY 9 JULY 2004: July is finally here. So far it's been a rather cool summer here in Kansas City. But I have a feeling that will finally change...in the next few days, we're anticipating our first 90 degree days here. In my last update, the Royals were playing badly. Well, it has become worse...such a massive and terrible contrast from last season. It makes me yearn ever more for the Chiefs to start play. Something I forgot to include in my last update in mid-June...I finally got my own digital camera. It's a Sony DSC-V1 Cybershot...a really great dig camera. I say farewell to my regular Olympus camera (passed it on to my parents)...and hello to digital photography! This month will be a momentous one for myself...I will finally move out of my little apartment and move into my first house. I won't get into specifics...other than I will still be living here in Johnson County, my living space will at least double in my new place (and unfortunately, the number of toilets I have to clean will triple), and I'll finally have a nice place to do some outdoor grilling. And because of this move, I will be without my trusty iMac...so this will be my last update for awhile, possibly until Labor Day. to the left I created a photo collage of what I've done so far this summer (with most of the pics taken with my new Sony dig camera): The top pic is from my June trip to Arkansas; the next pic is from the KC Airshow on 4th of July; the lower two are here in KC; and the firth one is the front of my new townhome. For the very few that actually check this website out, I hope you all have a good rest of the summer.
