Expenses for Trip
FLIGHT:
I booked my flight through Odyssey Travel in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. My travel companion was booking from Ottawa,
Ontario, also through Odyssey. They were able to co-ordinate our flights even though we booked at different times.
My point of departure was Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I flew Air Canada from Toronto to Los Angeles. Changed to Thai
Airways from Los Angeles to Bangkok. Overnight in Bangkok and Thai Airways to Kathmandu. My ticket cost $1830.00
Canadian and that included the overnight stay at the Hotel Comfort Inn in Bangkok.
INSURANCE:
My Flight Cancellation Insurance and Medical out of country Insurance which included helicopter evacuation from a
mountainous region was $200.00 Canadian. This was high because of my age.
TREK:
At Himalayan Waves Trekking agency the cost of our 21 day trek around the Annapurna Circuit was $640.00 /each. This
included bus transportation, room accomodations and meals. Also the services of a guide and a porter. At the end of the trek we walked to Birethanti where we were able to get a taxi to take us to Pokhara, which we had to pay extra for. We decided to pay for a taxi from Birethanti to Pokhara rather then wait for the bus. 400 rs. The end of the trek
was in Pokhara. We had to pay to get back to Kathmandu
ACCOMADATIONS:
The Potalla Guest House in Thamel, Kathmandu was $15.00 American a night for two. That was $22.50 for three night
for one.
The Tayoma Hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu was $10.00 American a night for two. Stayed for six nights. $30.00 am. each.
Pretty cheap.
We changed hotels because after returning from our trek, the Potalla Guest House did not have a vacancy. They sent us to the
Tayoma, which was next door.We liked it better and decided to stay there for the remainder of our trip.
In Pokhara we stayed at the Alisha Hotel on Damside. One night was included in the price of our trek and we paid $7.00
American for two for the second night.
These were all very nice hotels with twin beds and private bath. Even hot water.
CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK:
Bus fare from Pokhara to Sauraha in the Terai was 200 rs.
Hotel:
Crocodile Safari Camp
Royal Chitwan National Park
Sauraha village
Tel: 60160
29363
Exchange at that time was 41rs for one Canadian dollar and 55 rs. for one American dollar.
Most items in the tourist areas were priced in American dollars. Generally American dollars were the preferred currency,
especially cash. Except for one incident we had no trouble exchanging Canadian dollars. These are all 1996 prices and probably are more now.
