There is a solution
Loving God. Whether you have somehow fallen to the depths of fear and disblief, or are somewhere in between, I would like to offer you a way to find the God who will work wonders in your life. You don't have to believe... simply believe that I believe and until you develop your own satisfactory God Concept, you may borrow mine!
Whether you believe or not isn't important. Action is what counts and all that requires is a willingness to find a better way to live. Has your way worked? Are you happy, content, and at peace with your fellows? If so, then look no further! You are already a success at the business of living. But if the answers were "No", then why not try another way? All you have to lose is your misery, which will be cheerfully refunded if you are not completely satisfied with these ideas.
Think of all the ways your life has been less than "sane". In this respect, we use the word loosely, referring to *rational*, *logical*, and *self-controlled*. We have all fallen pray to certain degrees of this type of "insanity", as our emotional natures have presided above our intellect in various situations. Yet, if you have had enough trouble in life that you are following this format, then chances are, you've probably had more than your fair share of "insanity" in life. Many times, these problems revolve around the emotional natures of a significant person in our lives. Due to our involvement with them, we have been caught up in the insanity, finding ourselves acting and reacting in ways we otherwise would not.
In this section, I want you to write down all the ways you can see how either radical emotions or just careless disregard for consequences have reeked havoc in your life. Take your time. It's important that you be entirely honest and as detailed as you can. This will give you a clear perspective on certain, self-defeating behavior patterns.
Avoid the temptation to blame. Instead, write out your own irrational behaviors which have caused you problems. Maybe your insane action was actually "inaction". There are many times when we have stood idley by, doing nothing at all, and our lack of action has either caused additional problems or perpetuated existing ones.
Part Two:
Write your concept of God. Be completely honest here. Describe exactly who and what you believe God to be, along with any particular ideas or feelings you have pertaining to God. List characterists, or attributes, which you believe God does or does not possess. What do you think God does and doesn't do? What does God care about and what does he ignore? How has God affected your life? What role does God play in your life and what role do you play in your life? In other words, when you pray, what do you expect God to do, and what do you believe your part is?
Part Three:
On a seperate sheet of paper, write a description of what you WANT God to be. If you could make up your very own God, what would he be like? What would he mean to you and your daily life? Don't hold back here, and don't allow any preconceived ideas of being struck by lightening or anything of the sort to prevent you from fully expressing yourself in this. Be as descriptive as you can, detailing a complete picture of God as you would have him to be. Don't get in any hurry with this. Take your time. Put your notebook away and come back to it another time. Re-read what you've written and add more ideas as they come to you. Give yourself at least a week on this section. You can always add to it later on also, and we will be using this format again in other areas. God Concepts ~ part 4
