OCTOBER UPDATES

October 31, 2001 (Happy Halloween!!)
And just for you guys I have decided to add a new character and one more fight!! Actually I would have done it anyway. Check out Ralmauthar of Colors and the fight between Rannos and Nathaniel. Rannos has definitely become one of the top contenders for the title of Pit champion. This upcoming match between Rannos and Calathra should be very interesting. The halfling has worked hard to get the title of champion and probably doesn't want to give it up yet!

I have added my second fight but I am still waiting for two more in order to post. Watch the two new combatants Crucibal and Flegmar. I would also like to take this very quick moment to mention the new ranking system. With new people coming in all the time I have implemented a three fight system. After your third fight you will be ranked. You won't be ranked until then. Never made much sense that someone who wins 1 fight immediately gets a high ranking. I will also be implementing the idea of leagues or I guess I should say divisions. Since people are going up in level I thought that it would be a good idea to seperate the higher level characters from the lower level ones. Doesn't mean low level and high level won't fight... it'll just be more special when they do. I have plans and now that the number of player's is growing I need more DM's and then the fun shall truly begin :) Enjoy.

Today has been a rough day at work so I didn't get nearly as much as I had hoped done. I also don't have all the fights for you like I had promised :( But I have updated the schedule like I said I would and I have added two of the fights and the other three should be up tomorrow morning/afternoon. I would like to make a note that I have added another fight to the week 7 line up. Anyway take a look at the two fights. Calathra and Crwag for Pit supremacy and Melquiades and Cranigar. I have two questions as well that I would love some feedback about. First is currently we have a email group (yahoogroup) and a forum. Do we need both? Should we do away with one or keep both or have none? Let me know. Also how can I improve this site? Look, feel, content, etc. Thanks.

Ok people I have added two more characters.. thats right! Two!! Shanna Romm and Ackeron. And a new DM persona, Gremag. In addition to all that I have also added another exhibition match to keep your thirst for violence sated. Duingar vs Morak. Enjoy everyone and remember this is the last exhibition match before the real ones!!! (I'll keep the rest of my ehibition matches for other down times :)

October 25, 2001
I've been lax in my duties of bringing you a fight each day from the old pit. So I have added the three (Ghrimm vs Fenriz, Ghrimm vs The Abbot, Duingar vs Valorien) I was delinquent in as well as a bonus interlude. I will explain the interlude. The Abbot lost his first fight and the Player became very upset about it. I used to have a chat room and he became verbally insulting to myself and the other players (note that I am using the word players and not characters). I decided that if he felt that way then we would have nothing to do with him. I decided that his character should go out in an entertaining way and since Ghrimm had become a potent force in the pit I decided that he would have the priviledge. Let it be known that those who displease me will earn swift justice :) I will be posting all the fights all at once on Monday unless people would prefer to have them posted as they are finished?

October 22, 2001
This is a quick update to let everyone know that the deadline for tactics submission for week 6 has past. You'll also notice that the fight schedule for week 7 is posted and you may begin submitting tactics for those fights. Also a note on the 'poll' that is going around. I'm too busy right now to begin taking on the extra work that side quests would involve. For now all experience and treasure will be earned in the Pit. But that could change at a later date. Also I have added another fight from an old Pit, read it here.

October 19, 2001
This update is a bit late but I have already added a new exhibition match. This match was originally the second exhibition match that I wrote when waiting for more players to join. An interesting thing to note is that Valorien Bloodsteel was played by the same individual that plays Dis loveth of the Jarnack. So we do have a veteran in the Pit :) Anyway, enjoy and I will post another one on Monday

October 18, 2001
Update: I have added a second fight for the day from our good friend Ivan Zagad. Melquiades and Whisper. I am also bringing up three topics here.

1) The use of Familiars, Animal Companions, Summoned Critters and Mounts.

Most of the creatures in the Pit are part of a characters class. Summoned creatures, familiars, animal companions are all a part of a class just as bonus feats, evasion and rage are part of other classes. Its not fair for me to limit one aspect of a class simply because it seems like a gang tactic. So I have decided to allow all of these without restriction. I have also realized that mounts should be allowed into the pit as well since a character needs to spend hard earned money on them in order to gain these creatures. But at the same time I am going to restrict the number of purchased animals, charmed animals, etc allowed in the Pit. You are allowed one creature in the Pit if you desire that is not part of a CLASS ABILITY. Be warned though that this creature is not a mentally controlled servant and once in the Pit they are in the complete control of the DM. Ride checks will be enforced, animals may become spooked or not act according to a PC's wishes due to circumstances. (Note to DM's ** this is not an open invitation to go against general tactics concerning them, just to be aware that they may not always follow tactics). Anyway I hope that helps things out a little and I suggest everyone begin submitting tactics to deal with these changes. One final note is this. A dead animal is a dead animal. Your money is required to resurrect and heal them if your character can't do it themselves, the pit staff won't touch them :)

2) I have allowed the DM's to have PC's. They are required to follow very striict rules though. They will never be allowed to DM their own PC matches and if I feel the are using metagame knowledge to improve their PC's tactics against others then they will meet a swift and terrible punishment and the affected parties may be compensated.

3) I am pushing back the fights until Monday the 29th (they will be posted). If you wish to submit tactics for week 6 fights they must be in by Saturday night!!! I will post the week 7 schedule on Monday 22nd. The reason for this is pretty simple. I am trying hard to get everyting organized and I have finally said STOP. I need organization and I was getting tactics for fights that had already been completed by other DM's and it was getting crazy. So I am going to do what I originally intended. Week 6 tactics need to be in 1 week before the fights will be posted. Starting monday you have 1 week to submit tactics for Week 7 fights, etc. etc. Hope that is clear and sorry for the delay in the fights. In order to compensate for this I have decided to post one fight from my old pit (from 1998) each weekday until new fights are posted again (or I run out of old fights :). Lets start with the second match of the original Pit (my sample fight was the first match of that pit).

I have added a new name to the NPC list. Alsimane. You'll actually notice that this is the name of our newest DM. As such I have also added his first fight which is the one between Calathra and Craningar. Quite the battle I must say. I'll also use this space to make mention that I have been spelling Craningar's name incorrectly. I was missing an extra 'N'. Should be all better now.

October 17, 2001
Ok I have added a new character to the Pit today which is pretty good considering it now gives Crucibal his first match. Check out Flegmar.

October 16, 2001
Alright!!! We are on a roll! Ivan has blessed us with the fight between Nathaniel And Dis Loveth. Things seem to be going on nicely here now. Hopefully we can get the other two fights up soon.

October 15, 2001
I'm on schedule!!! I actually posted a fight when I said I would!!! Three cheers for me!! But really, check out the fight between Crwag and Rannos. I feel rejuvenated by the help I am getting from the other DM's. I am inspired by their writing and it makes me feel less burdened by having to do all the fights. Thanks guys. I have also added a new member to the Pit. His name is Crucibal Atesh and he will be the newbie everyone gets to pick on. I have also added next weeks schedule.

October 12, 2001
Well I have finnally posted another fight. This one was done by one of the other DM's, Ivan Zagad. You can read it here and I must say it was definitely a good fight between Rannos and Craningar. I have also finally finished that last of the fights promised almost two weeks ago (blushes in shame). It is a long fight and might have gone longer if my dice hadn't decided they were tired and would end it for me. Watch Dis Loveth and Crwag!

October 11, 2001
I am in the middle of negotiating additional help from more DMs in order to get you the fights you crave to you sooner than I can produce them. (work and life commitments are currently taking priority) Hopefully I can get back to a schedule. You will also notice that the next week's fight schedule is up.

October 9, 2001
Seems I am getting criticism for my lack of results :) Ah well, what can I say. Not much other than life comes before hobby and I do this for fun not because I am obligated to. Its not a chore and if it feels like it I take time off. But people are correct. I will place more responsibility on the other DM's since that is why I have them. Anyway another fight has been completed and you can witness the outcome of Melquiades and Calathra. Thanksgiving was awesome by the way. I love huge dinners that entail lots of drinking and merriement. Anyway I hope everyone is enjoying the fights besides the delays. One thing I would like to know is if people want me to provide the results of the fights all at once and then post the fight stories as they get done. I can do that without a problem. That way the standings would be done and updated with experiene and gold calculated every Monday. Anyway that is up to all of you.

October 4, 2001
It seems I am full of excuses these days. I was tied up tuesday with the doctor trying to figure out why I was in such pain that day (turns out its nothing some serious anti-inflammatories can't cure. I love medicine.) So Tuesday was written off even though I promised to have the fights done. Yesterday I was in training all day at work so I didn't get a chance to do them either (as a secret side note I do almost all the writing while at work :) Anyway I should have them up today... but no one has to believe me until I have actually done it. The first fight has been added between Nathaniel and Whisper. I have also recalculated experience since my math skills and grasp of the experience system in 3rd edition weren't up to par :) I've added a forum but I don't know how well it will work yet so feel free to try it out.

October 2, 2001
Wow... October already. Seems like only a few days ago it was September. Seems like only a few days ago I could come up with original jokes. The weekend was very busy and unfortunately I didn't get nearly as much done as I would have liked. The fight results were tabulated (I could tell you who won but I won't. You'll have to wait for me to compose the wonderful stories.) Anyway check back throughout the day and I should have all four up. This week there won't be any fights because I am not even going to try and compete with Thanksgiving (up here in Canada). I may post some written stories and I will be working on better organizing the character sheets I have (need to make it easier to get at all the information when I'm doing the fights). Anyway less rambling about why they aren't done and more writing them up. On a side note I am going to request all changes in tactics be submitted seperately and in notepad (plain text). Well that is all for now... time to get bloody :)

I also added a new resource that can be used (Dragon Issue 288 and The Book of Eldritch Might)
