FILK
UpLinks:
Science Fiction
Fantasy
Filk is most rapidly decribed as the music of
Science Fiction & Fantasy literature.
Consider as critically important that I said "rapidly" and not
"correctly" or at least "universally".
There are at least as many different definitions of "filk" as
there are people who perform it. Probably more.
Filk in many minds is still considered "the folk music of SF&F
fandom", and there is evidence that the term itself originated as
a typo in a schedule for a convention time slot for folksinging.
For more a more detailed discussion, see the FAQ for the FidoNet
Filk echo / gated newsgroup.
Kihe's Favorite Filk Artists / Filk Lyricists
There is some major crossover into "Celtic" music involved in
much of the more traditional material considered to be filk.
At least some of the performing groups or individuals listed here
reflect that linkage...
- Leslie Fish (in SCA: Leslie the Bard)
- Joe Bethancourt (in SCA: Ioseph of Locksley)
- Tom Smith
- Poul Anderson
- Gordon Dickson
- Michael Longcor (aka "Moonwulf")
- Tom Lehrer
- Robert Asprin ("Yang the Nauseating")
- Rudyard Kipling (standard "emeritus" entry)
- Cynthia McQuillin
- Dr. Jane Robinson
- Stan Freberg
- Larry Warner
- Ravens (look for their CD Rise With The Moon)
- "Wierd Al" Yankovic
- Lee Martindale
(Ladies of Tradetown was released August, 1997.
LOOK FOR IT!)
Kihe's Filk Classics Basic Song List

- "Circles"
- "Hope Eyrie" - Fish
- "Lord of the Dance" (NeoPagan variation)
