The Undead is a very dangerous type of creature. Usually under the control of a Necromancer or other Sorcerer of sorts, the Undead attack with viciousness and strength of unknown origin. The Undead are reanimated from dead creatures, and some are much more intelligent than others, and show this in their attacks. Possessing a great hatred for anything living, aside from their masters, the Undead wish to strengthen their ranks with your corpse.
Any species with no asterisk next to its name is based on traditional myth or folklore.

** These species were created for the Atlantis series by Lan Mesinsure staff.

Skeletons: Of course the most obvious of the Undead are the skeletons. They are, namely . . . skeletons. Risen from the bodies of people long dead, with only their bones remaining. Skeletons are surprisingly intelligent, with smarts that come from some unknown origin, as they brains have long since decayed, and although they don't possess much brute strength, they will surround their victims and strike when they sense their prey is vulnerable. The problem with fighting skeletons is that they are only truly dead, again, if their skulls are destroyed. If not, they can simply reassemble themselves and strike again.

Zombies: Contrived from the corpses of the newly dead, Zombies reek of foul smelling decay, with their dead flesh and muscle hanging from them. Zombies still use their brains, and so can be very, very stupid, as their brains are still decaying. Also, they are extremely slow, as most of their muscles have torn apart, and are now being lugged around, rather than being put to use. However, they can be viscous in battle, and still have surprising brute force. Keep your distance from these creatures.

* Necrarchs: When those who raised the Undead in life finally meet their end, the energies that surrounded them through life carry on into the next plane of existence, and are sometimes responsible for pulling the souls of these dead back to the mortal plane. The result in Necrarchs, practitioners of Undeath who are now Undead themselves. However, Necrarchs are one of the very, very few things on this planet that have no aura to speak of. Somehow, it is lost on the transfiguration back to Undeath. Thusly, they cannot cast a spell at all. They possess great strength and speed, however, and usually join armies of their Undead kin to fight for their dark agendas once more.

Ghouls: The origin of Ghouls are clouded in mystery. Where they come from is uncertain, but yet, they are summoned to the mortal plane. However, an Undead sorcerer must summon them. Truly living ones simply do not have the means necessary, and never will. The "Common" Ghoul usually has a grey complexion, and its stupidity and lack of fighting ability makes it used as a scout only, when the Undead does not want to risk him or herself.

* Fire Ghoul: Resembling a small flaming creature, Fire Ghouls were summoned in ancient times to act as melee-based attackers for undead armies. Water, in high amounts, is lethal to them, and their stupidity was renowned for being able to be led into a lake.

Night Ghoul: These ghouls have a dark, dark blue complexion, making them almost indistinguishable at night. Night Ghouls are a smarter brand of Ghoul, and they are famed for snatching away whole battalions during battle, one soldier at a time.

** Lightning Ghoul: Lightning Ghouls look like regular Ghouls, except with a cyan complexion. One touch to them is a massive, and usually fatal, shock.

Wind Ghoul: Ghouls with wings are Wind Ghouls. They can fly, courtesy of their wings, and were known to carry their victims away in the air and drop them from a fatal height. Now, the thing is, they would also use this technique on Gargoyles or Winged Elves and such. Not the brightest creatures in the world.

Mummies: Egyptian tombs are known for housing the mummified remains of great kings and their servants. Great magical energies surround these corpses, and bringing them back from beyond the grave can create creatures of massive power, Mummies. Mummies have auras possessing massive power that can be used for whatever they desire. Mummies will sometimes not need outside assistance to rise again, and have been known to do so if their crypts are disturbed. They have great spellcasting abilities, and will usually use these to further their own agendas. They are impossible to control.

* Abominations: Abominations are pieced together from different corpses by their masters before being brought back to hadean life. Usually, they have several extra limbs, and drag innards which spill from open wounds behind them. While not very intelligent on their own, they possess great strength and endurance and can be deadly if put to use correctly by their makers.

* Unizirons: Unizirons are one of the oddest phenomenon in the known world. These Undead occur when odd energies surround a specific area of the dead like graveyards or catacombs. These energies, only invoked at night, will cause those dead to rise from their graves. The Unizirons are little more than animated corpses. They possess no further powers and act on the mind of whoever the person was. Sometimes, if music is available, Unizirons will have an all night dance in their graveyards, which is truly one of the weirdest things to see in this world. However, once the sun rises, those energies are dispelled, and they fall back into the quiet rest of death.

Wights: Wights are Undead under specific circumstances. They are sorcerers who, before death, will cast a spell which makes them return to the mortal plane as an Undead. Wights are what they return as. Wights appear as the caster did at the time of death, and will not decay, as most Undead will. They not only possess the powers that they had when they lived, but also that of the dark realms they returned from, as well.

* Frankenstein: Named after the scientist immortalized in lore, the Frankenstein are one of the few Undead races created by science rather than sorcery. Assembled from different corpses to create usually a humanoid, the Frankenstein are then rejuvenated by a massive jolt of precisely placed electrical current. These, if everything goes well, can act as nerve impulses and reestablish the neural interface of the creature. Of course, the choice of brain for it is very important, as that will act as, if it works out, the mind of the new creature.

* Marldytes: Powerful sorcerers and practitioners of magic gain strong auras through their lives. If their aura is strong enough at the point of death, and other circumstances are intact, it will bring them back to a life of Undeath. This isn't, necessarily, a bad thing, as some sorcerers are not all too vile, but will increase their magical abilities quite a bit. It doesn't, however, help with the decay at all . . . or the smell.

** The Restless: Although a variety of scientific jargon has been created to name this phenomenon, the Restless is the most fitting. These usually ancient and dismantled bones are sometimes surrounded by mystical energies of some sort, the Restless are the bodies who are imbued with these energies, and will assemble themselves. Usually it is to perform a specific task, and once it is complete, they will fall apart once again and return to the plane they came back from. The Restless don't usually seem to be under another's control, and research on them is scarce, but they can be very dangerous.

Unravelers: In ancient Egypt, is was customary to surgically implant animal body parts onto the human corpse of a great king or warrior. The result was an Unraveler. When brought to hadean life, these corpses will serve their masters unerringly. After a time, they will bear disease and decay, and can transmit these maladies to their victims.
