I
remembered the first time I played my first video game. It was Pac-Man.
I was 8 years old, barely able to see the screen and frantically holding
the joystick with both hands trying to get away from Inky and friends.
Those were the days when a 16-color, 4 bit sound game was called state-of-the-art.
I can still
remember the title and publisher of some of my favorite games and the
feeling when once I did a score of 999,999,990 in Bubble Bobble.
How I wished I could someday be like them, the developers, to create
games. Nowadays, my interest in video games are confined to only
a certain genre, particularly beat-em-up and puzzle.
Here's
my list of the best video games of all time:
Super
Street Fighter II Turbo : Grandmaster Challenge
The
toughtest of the Street Fighter series. The computer's AI is brilliant.
The gameplay is fast and tactical. I heard a rumor that the game
is based on the number one player in the world. Also marked the first
appearance of Akuma. My favorite character would be Dee Jay and the Shotokaners
(Ryu, Ken & Akuma). |
Street
Fighter Zero 2 Alpha
Available
only in Asia, I heard. Marks the first appearance of Evil Ryu (Satsui
No Hado Ryu). The survival mode should get you pretty busy for a
while. My favorite characters are still the Shotokaners (minus Dan!),
Guy and Charlie. I like the Chain Combo system in Street Fighter
Zero and was kinda baffled why Capcom pulled it out. |
Marvel
Super Heroes
I guess
the REAL goal of this game is to perform as many juggle-air-combo as you
can (read: Wolverine). Lots of Specials, Supers and Infinity gems.
Favorite character would be Wolverine, Psylocke and Spiderman. Seriously,
it's fun getting a 90+ with Wolvie. |
Street
Fighter EX
Street
Fighter goes 3D!! Actually it's not really a 3D game since the
view is kinda fixed, but the gameplay is awesome. Lots of secret
characters and Capcom retains the classic control system. Fav
characters are Chun-Li, Kairi, Blair Dame.

Hyperdyne
Sidearms
A side-scrolling
shoot-'em-up from Capcom that reminds me of Japanese manga Macross and
Mospeada. You have like 6 types of weapons (bits, shotgun, laser,
3-way, auto1 and auto2). No speed power ups and no bombs (reasons
why I love this game). Fast and intense. |
1943
& 19XX
Top-down
Capcom shoot-'em-up. The complete series would be 1942, 1943, 1941
and finally 19XX. The difficulty is pretty easy, not like those games
published by Psikyo. Simple and fun. |
King
of Fighters '95
Published
by SNK. You can choose 3 fighters out of 24. High strategy,
tactic and timing required. Favorite characters are Kyo Kusanagi,
Iori Yagami and Heidern. |
