Chapter 8

“Will she be alright, Master?” Seeing the worry in Obi-Wan’s eyes, Qui-Gon reassured him with,

“She has a long journey, but she will make it. Goodnight my Padawan.”

“Goodnight, Master.” Obi-Wan left to set out for that evening’s escapade.  Dawit’s eyes suddenly opened. She was breathing hard. Her robes were sour with the smell of stale sweat.  Sasah helped her sit up and sip some Terellian soup.  It was hot and spicy, but it felt good going down her sore throat.  Terellian herbs had been mixed in to ease her pain and nausea. The Council was now looking at her. Their eyes seemed to burn right into her. They were searching for her past, the one they had locked away from her. Time seemed to crawl by and then Dawit could take no more.

“I want to know why my mind was wiped.”

“Help we did.” Yoda told her.

“Why isn’t is holding? Did you let a Padawan do it?” Dawit joked.

“We don’t know why it isn’t holding. It may be because you couldn’t suppress the memories any longer.” Nefra said.

“But that’s impossible. I didn’t know those ‘memories’ existed until last night.”

“What triggered the memories?” Sasah prodded.

“The fountain. I was waiting at the fountain.”

“I was afraid of that.” Nefra muttered.

“Why? What does the fountain have to do with anything?” Dawit was confused about the fountain’s significance.

“The fountain is where all things meet.” Sasah said.

            “What things?”

"The Force. Both sides of the Force converge at the fountain. The Sith derive their power from it.” Sasah told Dawit.

“Why don’t you destroy it?” Dawit was angry that the Jedi let the Sith have power.

“It would destroy us too. We are intertwined. There is no way to destroy the Sith without destroying us. We can destroy their physical presence, but never their spiritual presence.”

“Why can’t you destroy their spiritual presence?”

“Even the most hardened Jedi cannot suppress their emotions fully. The Sith will always be if they are given an outlet.”

            “Like my brother.”

“He was not a full Sith. They could not have come into existence without a fully trained physical body.”
“Onxyi wasn’t fully trained, but he understood Sith magic. Why wasn’t he destroyed?”

“It is against the Code.” Mace said.

            “He is dangerous.”

            *Hello Sister.*

“Who said that?” Dawit said looking frantically around the room.

“No one said anything.” Nefra reassured her.

*They can’t her me. Do you want to know why you remember the past?* Dawit carefully considered her answer.

*Why are you doing this to me?*

*There are more terrifying things I can make you remember.*

*What do you mean by more terrifying?*

*Don’t let your guard down, you are still mine!* Onxyi laughed as he withdrew the link between them.

“He’s back. He just spoke to me. The mind-wipe isn’t failing, he’s making me remember.”

“We didn’t hear anyone.” Sasah told her.

“It was only in my mind.” Dawit said to reassure herself. Only, it wasn’t reassuring enough.

“Then you did hear something. It might have been telepathically sent.” Nefra said.

“Did you feel any tremors in the Force? Aren’t telepathic communications supposed to give off tremors in the Force?”

“Most do, but some are so small that they elude our highly-trained senses.” Nefra explained.

            “Why did I hear it?”

“It was only to you. Very few people can do that with people who aren’t in their family.” Sasah added, “Did your brother say where he was?”

“No, but he said he was going to something. Something more with my memories. Things I haven’t remembered yet. What haven’t you told me? What more can I possibly remember?”

“The path ahead will be hard to follow. You may leave if you wish.” Sasah told her.

“I have no intention of giving up my dreams. I will not be chased away by ghosts from my past. I haven’t heard anything from Onxyi in two years, there must be something he needs. Something I haven’t remembered yet.”

“You sense Onxyi has an ulterior motive for contacting you?” Nefra asked.

“It had something to do with  a plan of his. Something about a plan of his. A plan that involved me. I don’t remember anymore. It is fuzzy even now.”

“You will have a long night ahead of you. He will probably have you regress in your weakest state, when you are sleeping. Try to get some sleep while you can. Sasah will try to ease your pain if you experience anymore painful memories.” Nefra said. He knew it would a trial of Dawit’s loyalty. He hoped that she would pass this final test. Onxyi posed the greatest threat to the Jedi since the last Sith lord was defeated.
