Statement of Purpose
The purpose of this mailing list is to discuss all issues that pertain
to parenting and home education. A particular emphasis is placed on
political aspects of home education such as legislation, the NEA, etc.
It shall be open to all discussions that relate to these and related
topics.
Background
Home-educators are a diverse group of people. There are as any
reasons to home-educate as there are people who home-educate.
This list will attempt to keep its members informed on issues which
may affect our ability to home-educate. Since public school policies
often directly influence home-educators we will discuss the NEA, the
public school system, and the entire educational bureaucracy. We will discuss and post any information on legislative efforts that pertain
to home-education and parenting. We want to have input from all
States.
We will also discuss the child abuse industry as this most certainly
involves parenting.
We will try to keep abreast of the federal legislative efforts as
well.
We do not wish that any person or group of people be singled out for ridicule. This list is for the open discussion of all areas touching
home-education.
Religion plays a major part in the lives of many people on this list.
It is therefore expected that articles will contain references to
their belief system as it relates to their reasons for home-educating
or the way in which they choose to raise their children.
Guidelines for submitting
We encourage articles that discuss public or private education,
home-education, parenting, child abuse or legislative efforts. As
this is primarily a home education centered list public and private
educational issues should center around their spillover into
home-education.
Articles from other home-education groups around the country and the world are welcome. Although this list is mainly concerned with the legislative efforts in the United States we would be interested in hearing from those who home-educate in other countries.
We want this to be an open discussion format and desire that it be as unmoderated as possible, and is currently set up as a mail forwarder. Please act like adults, and avoid flaming.
If comments toward any one particular posting gets to be so derogatory as to defame the character of the poster, the offending party should expect email requesting that the tone be changed or that they consider leaving the list.
Other items of Interest
On this list we would also like to establish and maintain a list of
books and a short summary (2 paragraphs) on each pertaining to any of the above subjects. We will post this book list from time-to-time so
that all can be kept abreast of what is being written on these subjects. Please add/post additions to the book list at
