Other Ways to Connect with Homeschoolers on the Internet
There are many other ways to connect with other homeschoolers on the internet, & as the internet population grows & people become more comfortable with it, I'm sure that you will find them grow in popularity. On this page, you will find Homeschooling Yellow Pages, where you may be able to find people in your area or to an area your interested in moving to or visiting, & penpal lists. You will also find info on Virtual Places, which is used to make any place on the web a chat place & to take guided tours, & PowWow, which allows any one to connect & chat with another if they are online, join or conduct a conference of up to 50 people, & even has a built-in web phone!
Homeschooling Yellow Pages | E-mail Pen Pal Lists | ICQ, Ichat, & PAL Instant Paging | Virtual Places Info
The Homeschooling Zone This board has several ways to network with others, make sure to take a look around. To get to the Yellow Pages, click on the Homeschooling Zone logo and then select the Yellow Pages link. Don't forget to add yourself to the list!
Home's Cool includes a message board, general chats, scheduled chats for adults & kids, used curriculum, & more.
Teen Homeschoolers includes an area to find an e-pal.
All of these programs are very similar in what they do & how they work. Most people are on ICQ; I use both ICQ & Ichat although I did try to use PAL, but I couldn't find anyone to try it out with.
ICQ is a communications program similar to Pow Wow. You can put in your friends' ICQ number & it will let you know whenever they are online for a personal chat. You can also do group chats & it works with standard e-mail phone software such as Net Meeting & Net Phone. To download, just scroll down to Download & follow the directions for downloading & installing it. You can do a search on ICQ for other homeschoolers.
Ichat Pager is similar to ICQ. You can use it to see if any of your friends are online & to start a chat with others. Choose Downloads & follow the online directions.
