They had a covered wagon and would travel from Missouri to Nebraska selling pots, pans, household necessities, home remedies and anything else that he could sell or barter to the farmers along his route. Grandfather had a 'Wheel of Fortune' which he would set up, on Saturday nights, in the small towns. Grandmaw, Sally (Buckelew) Baty, was Indian, or at least part Indian, and was known as the 'Doctor Lady (Arlo notes that Sarah's mother, Rachel Holt Buckelew, was the Doctor Lady). Grandpaw Baty was quite a 'Cono-man.' The home remedies that they sold were concocted while they were camped out along some creek bank, using the creek water to mix the ingredients with. Sometimes he would barter something for a barrel of cider or venegar at one of the farms, then stop and dilute them with creek water and resell it along the way. He had a stock of gold watch cases in which he would put cheap works in and have one of these on the 'Wheel of Fortune' along with a lot of cheap junk. They made a round trip to Nebraska and back each year."
