Network Mgmt.

A large portion of my responsibilities while working at PageNet in California involved network management. When I tell people I worked as a system manager for a paging company, they sometimes assume that meant I took care of pagers, as that is the part of the paging system of which they are most familiar. Paging networks are very similar to cellular networks. They require network switches, databases, data storage and transmitters in order to function properly. I was responsible for managing all of these assets. Even though I had no prior experience working within the paging industry, within a few months, I was considered to be one of the top system managers in the Western Region. This led to my promotion to Bay Area System Manager.

My responsibilities as Bay Area System Manager included managing the network assets for the paging network in all of Northern California. This system supported over 700,000 people. I managed 18 network switches and over 400 transmitters located in over 50 different transmitter sites. These switches have their own proprietary language that I was required to learn. I was required to manage all upgrades to the switches as well as work with the manufacturer on any new software releases.  I did the budgetary and network planning for this system. I was responsible to monitor network traffic and plan for network growth. I managed the installation of new channels, which required the installation of new transmitters as well as the programming of all of the network switches.

I believe this is a good example of my ability to learn quickly and absorb technology allowing me to make a significant contribution to an organization. Although my experience in this area is limited to this single job, I believe that I have the aptitude and skills to be highly effective in a position in network management.
