A close-up of the corner of the shawl Elizabeth knit shows a small leaf with veins. The shawl is five feet square when blocked and weights a mere 6.5 ounces. The yarn is cobweb weight Shetland wool from Schoolhouse Press in Wisconsin. The shawl was a take along project for about a year. A center square of diagonal garter was picked up around the perimeter and a feather and fan stitch worked outward. The leaf border was then knit on sideways. The shawl picked up Best of Show ribbon is both the local county fair and the Utah State Fair. It was one of four items selected from the Utah State Fair to be displayed at the first Disneyland State Fair exhibit.

Knitting for Charity

Elizabeth knit some very small sweaters and caps for Touching Little Lives, an Ohio charity who gave layettes to needy new mothers. She adapted a newborn pattern to make a sweater that would fit a large premature baby.

She was required to use synthetic yarns that were non-allergic and easy to clean.

To speed up the knitting process, she would have five or six sweaters going at the same time on one long circular needle.
