Elizabeth Spinning on a Canadian Production Wheel
We purchased this wheel in New Philadelphia, Ohio during 1995. It was purchased originally as decoration for an Historic House Tour in Utah. (During Utah's bicentennial celebration we were asked by the local historical society to include our place on the tour of 100-year-old houses.) However, Elizabeth decided the wheel was more than a decorator item and better suitable for spinning. The wheel has several unique metal parts indicating its heritage as a Canadian machine.
This wheel uses a U-shaped flyer for twisting fibers and winding them on the bobbin at the same time. There is no going backward with this wheel unlike a walking wheel with spindle.
