BIOGRAPHY:
The Jefferson Herald - Thursday Nov. 15, 2001 SCHILLING Services were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson for Iola Hansen Schilling. The Rev. Sheri Daylong of the church officiated. Larry Down was soloist, with Sheryl Sloan as organist. Honorary casket bearers were Kathy Marsh, Karen and Lisa Steenhoek, Julie Fridinger, Alicia Jacobs, Karel Obenauf, John Obenauf Sr., and John Obenauf Jr. Casket bearers were Steve, Matthew and Wade Marsh, Ken Steenhoek, Bruce Fridinger and E. C. Trautman. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Iola Mae Dolder was born Sept. 3, 1907, in Pioneer, IA. She was the seventh of eight children born to Louis and Anna (Ulrich) Dolder. Iola lived in the Humboldt area and went to schools there. On May 21, 1926, Iola married Adel George Hansen. They were the parents of four children: twin sons Elden and Alvin, a son Darrel, and a daughter Doreen. In 1942 they moved to Jefferson. Iola worked for 15 years for Vern Marten Seed Store. Adel died in 1959. On Dec. 19, 1968, Iola married Dewey Schilling. They spent winters in Arizona and Florida. Dewey died in 1995. Iola was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. She became a resident of the Greene County Medical Center long term care unit in December 1999. There she died Nov. 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Adel, and her husband Dewey; her sons Alvin and Darrel; five sisters, Clara Andrews, Minnie Bollock, Ina Jacobsen, Florence Dolder and Etta Hesser; and two brothers, Ernest Dolder and Harold Dolder. Surviving include a son, Elden Hansen and his wife Veva, and a daughter, Doreen Wilber and her husband Paul (Skeeter), all of Jefferson; three granddaughters, Kathy Marsh, Karen Steenhoek and Karel Obenauf; six great-grandchildren, Julie, Alicia, Wade, Matthew, Lisa and John; a great-great granddaughter, Lauren Jacobs; and Dewey Schilling's four daughters, Bea Freeman of Boxholm, Fran Safley of Jefferson, Betty Larson of Jamaica and Bonnie Blough of Santa Fe, NM. |
