11th Pennsylvania Infantry at GettysburgThere were 1,890 men on the rolls of the Eleventh Regiment. During the war, it lost 1,650 men. At the time of discharge, there were only 340 men left. It was the oldest unit in continuous service from Pennsylvania. Nicknamed the "Old Eleventh." After the Battle of Falling Waters, General Patterson bequeathed the title, "The Bloody Eleventh".
