MORE ABOUT PERU

The beautiful city of Cajamarca, where Atahualpa, the last of the Incas, lived, is located in northern Peru.  The area is green and luscious, and a main producer of dairy products.  You can even see the
"milk-girl" carrying milk to the market.

Santa Apolonia is one of the main spots of the city and you have to climb the hill to reach the cross.  Here I am taking a break to catch my breath for the journey!

The picturesque town of Churin is a couple of hours from Lima. You can spend a very relaxing vacation and visit the thermal fountains were you can bathe in warm, hot or boiling! waters.

Cieneguilla is another weekend retreat, 40 minutes from Lima.  You can take a walk by the river and breath the wonderful fresh and crispy air.

And in Cieneguilla you can taste the delicious Pachamanca, a dish that comes from the times of the ancient Peruvians.  It is cooked underground, heating up stones that act as a furnace.  It has chicken,
beef, pork and lamb, plus potatoes, "humitas" (made of grinded corn), sweet potatoes, and corn on the cob, everything cooked with many aromatic herbs.

This is what a Pachamanca looks like.  You have to be hungry enough to finish it all!  I hope you can come visit us and share this dish with me!
