Rockaway Is Still Fighting For
The Q-Rail
On May 28, Rockaway leaders and citizens spoke in one voice
at City Councilman Noach Dears community meeting in J.H.S.
180: We need and want the Q-Rail. The Q-Rail proposal calls for
the MTA to reopen the LIRR tracks that extend from the "A"
line in Ozone Park and create a more direct link to Manhattan.
We need and want the Q-Rail.
The Q-Rail proposal calls for the MTA to reopen the LIRR tracks
that extend from the "A" line in Ozone Park and create
a more direct link to Manhattan. In addition to significantly
reducing the daily commute to Manhattan for Rockaway residents,
this plan would create practical subway service to/from JFK and
Manhattan, and make it easier for Manhattan residents to take
advantage of Rockaway's beaches and the proposed Technodome.
It would be a boon to our local economy and property values.
Currently, the Port Authority is pursuing a $6 billion dollar
light rail white elephant that will connect JFK with the Jamaica
subway line via the Van Wyck Expressway. Q-Rail will be far less
expensive ($1.5 billion) and far more effective for all, especially
Rockaway. |
