Ferrets can still be hard to find
and, in some parts of the country, you may need to travel
some way to find a good ferret. Ferrets are often hardest
to come by in the spring, with more available during the summer
and autumn. Baby ferrets (kits) are only available in the
summer and early autumn and a few pet shops do now sell young
ferrets. As with all types of pet, great care must be taken
in chosing a ferret - whether from a pet shop, a shelter or
a home breeder.
Some local papers and papers such as The Loot
and Exchange and Mart also hold advertisements for ferrets.
On the Internet, Loot.com
is also a good source of ferrets, especially in the summer.
Alternatively, and perhaps the best option
for a first-time owner, is to get a young adult ferret from
a ferret shelter. To locate a ferret shelter near you, contact
the The National Ferret Welfare Society (see Links)
your local RSPCA centre or email
me.
Details of any ferrets
needing new homes and of owners seeking ferrets will be posted
below. If you are interested in any of these adverts,
please email
me.
Rehoming and Rescue
A number of excellent shelters offer rehoming
services and many other individuals around the country also
offer emergency collection and rescue services for stray or
unwanted ferrets. Any ferrets taken in will be given medical
attention and either be kept by the rescue home or passed
onto a reputable rehoming shelter. If you are in need of rescue
or rehoming services, please email
me or, in an emergency, call 01258 818288 or 07919
110513.
