My first English Ferret, BD, came to us
from a ferret shelter in November 1995. He had not been ill-treated
(to our knowledge) but had been kept in a fish tank and thoroughly
neglected. We called him BD (for Brain Dead) because when we
first got him home, he seemed so happy with life and pleased
to be out of his cage that he used to dance about with such
vigour that he would regularly hit his head on chair legs and
other bits of furniture.
Over the years, ferrets have come and gone,
reaching a peak of 6 at one point. Now, however, we have a
modest 3. Charlie is the oldest at 5 or 6 and the smallest.
Very friendly and easy going, he loves Paddy and Ginger (both
4), but introducing new ferrets to Charlie is always a bit
of a trial. Paddy is a hyperactive yet very gentle Black-Eyed
White (who achieved fame this year
when he appeared on TV). Ginger is a large, but very timid
ginger-sandy ferret.
I haven't included pictures of all the
ferrets I have ever had - there would just be too many but,
as those who "met" him will appreciate, this page
would not be complete without a picture of Teddy,
who sadly died earlier this year.
