Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 by Major Bill Henricks, USMCR. With help from those in his unit, he collected and distributed 5000 toys to needy children. In 1948 the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve adopted and expanded his program to include the whole country. Henricks also used his civilian career, with Warner Bros. Studios, to start a tradition of help and support from many celebrities, including Walt Disney, Bob Hope and John Wayne.

Toys for Tots collects an average of 8 million toys. Over the past 49 years (1947-1996) they have donated over 222 million toys for the underprivileged children of America.

This campaign begins each year with our recycling. DSC is big on recycling and the employees involvement begins with their disposal of aluminium cans. Our recycler sends us a check for all the cans recycled and we, in turn, use these monies for charities covered once a year at Christmas. In one case of unforeseen events, last May an F5 tornado struck Jerrell, TX. Funds were being raised for the survivors, so the V.I.A. organization at work sent $500.00 to the Jarrell Relief Fund in Jarrell, Tx. Otherwise, the women get a group of happy shoppers together (I call them happy shoppers cause they get to spend someone else's money) and this year spent $1000.00 for the Tots For Tots Drive.
