Incandescent Devotion

As I stepped outside, a brisk breeze blew through my hair. Zipping up my coat I started down the hill. The gentle radiance of the bonfire waved to me, drawing me closer with it’s hypnotizing flames. Looking up into the endless realm of heaven, the stars shone brightly. The midnight blue sky was crystal-clear. The moon shone like a beacon, shedding it’s silver light over the trees and water. The lake rippled with excitement, the waves dancing in the moonlight. I breathed in the crisp air and was renewed, like a child seeing God for the first time.

I could hear the sounds of others’ laughter coming from the small clearing near the lake. They stood around the fire, their faces glowing with exuberance. I saw a few of my friends and joined them. The trees were now silhouettes against the shimmering lake. Darkness would have swallowed me if it weren’t for the blazing flames that grew, reaching to the sky.

Joining hands we started to sing. The breeze carried our voices away from the earth and God rejoiced. Our words were golden and sincere, “Our God is an awesome God; He reigns from heaven above; With wisdom, power, and love; Our God is an awesome God.” Joy filled my soul like a mighty rushing wind. The trees, water, and animals joined in our song, all things praising the Father. And then silence. For one short moment the world seemed to stand still.

Time stopped. I was like an ice sculpture, frozen and unable to move, yet I could breathe. God’s gift of life flowed endlessly and deeply through my entire being, in and out, slowly and effortlessly. Then the wind came. God’s fire consumed the night air, the flames dancing above my head and roaring, proclaiming God’s everlasting truth to the world. When the flames died down, I stood in awe. Incandescent Devotion Bible Verse God came, he was there. No words escaped my mouth, no thoughts ran through my mind. Some chatted quietly nearby, awakening me from my reverie. I stepped away from the fire and the cool air made me shiver. I walked with God back up the hill, away from the clearing.

A brisk breeze blew through my hair. I smiled.
