The Roe Family Genealogy
* Names in red indicate direct line of descent. This is a double ROE line as both our gggrandfather and our gggrandmother had the Roe surname before they married and are related to the same Roe and BOAZ lines. There is also a strong connection to the HUFFMAN family, as four Roes married Huffman siblings in Harrison Co., TX.
Unknown ROE/ROWE, b. abt. 1790, probably GA or NC, married Unknown. They had two known sons, William P. Roe and Abram C. Roe, both born in NC in the early 1800's. The family moved on to AL at some point, settling for a number of years in Talledega, AL where it is believed the two sons met and married the BOAZ sisters, Agnes and Elizabeth. By the 1880's, brothers William and Abe are found in Harrison Co., TX with their families where they lived out the rest of their lives. Because they married sisters we also have a double BOAZ/BOAZE line. There are other ROE families from AL found in Harrison Co., TX at the same time as William and Abe, who could be siblings or cousins. We believe they are related, but have not yet found the connecting proof.

Still searching for origins of William, exact dates of birth/marriage/death, and other possible children. It is not clear when William or Agnes died nor where they are buried.

Robert was known as "Bun" and was the first game warden for Caddo Lake, TX. He was shot and killed there in 1919 by a deputy sheriff who was illegally fishing with nets in the area. He left a widow and five children. The Marshall Messenger carried the story on July 2, 1919, listing two brothers as "Bud" and "Harry"
FANNIE ROE, b. abt. 1870 TX, married LUTHER "LUKE" ROE. This is where the two ROE and BOAZ lines merge, Fannie being the daughter of Abe Roe and Elizabeth Boaz, and Luke being the grandson of William P. Roe and Agnes Boaz. Fannie, age 10 in the 1880 census for Harrison Co., TX is shown living in her father's (Abe C. ROE, age 64) household with brothers William Roe, age 15, and Robert, age 13, along with stepmother Mary Isadora "Isa" Tincher, age 34 and three Richardson stepchildren. Emma married C. W. Benedict in 1919, Leila married N. A. Harky, and either she or the unknown third sister married R. A. Benedict, and one also married Lester C. Sanders.
LUTHER "LUKE" ROE, b. abt. 1869 in Harrison Co., TX, d. Dec. 12, 1907 Harrison Co., TX. Married August 20, 1886 in Harrison Co., TX, FANNIE ROE, b. abt. 1870 in Texas, probably Gregg or Harrison Co. Fannie was the daughter of Abram C. Roe, b. 1816 in NC, and Elizabeth Boaz. Luke and Fannie were almost first cousins, but not quite.
Luther and his brother appear to have been orphaned at an early age. Their mother died in 1874, their father's date of death is unknown. Luther at age 12, and his brother Everett, age 13, show up on the 1880 census in Harrison Co., TX living with their maternal grandfather, Garland Lane Huffman. Luther's obituary was found in the Marshall Messenger Dec. 12, 1907 (spelled ROWE) and in part reads, "Misses Grady and Emma Rowe, Nee Moore, F.H. Huffman and wife left this morning to attend the funeral." We are unsure who Miss Grady and Emma Moore Rowe are in connection to Luther.

Children of Luther Roe and Fannie Roe
UNKNOWN DAUGHTER ROE, b. abt. 1888 TX. In the Gregg County Death and Marriage Notices in the Times-Clarion, Longview, Texas, 1905-1908" was the following notice: "Thursday, Dec. 19, 1907. Luther Roe, age 39, died at his home in Harrison Co., Texas, six miles northeast of Longview last Thursday, Dec. 12. He leaves four small children, three daughters and one son, motherless and fatherless." We are still looking for this third "missing" daughter.

ANNIE D. ROE, b. August 23, 1893, Longview, Gregg Co., TX, married JOHN ARNOLD SLATON, b. Dec. 25, 1891 OK, on July 7, 1913 in Longview, TX. They had five children before Annie died Nov. 22, 1930 in Westbrook, Mitchell Co., TX of "consumption." at age 37.
Annie's parents, Luther and Fannie Roe died when the children were fairly young. Annie and her siblings were taken in by family in Harrison Co., which included the Huffmans and the Reels.
WILLIE OGIE ROE, b. March 18, 1896, TX, d. June 29, 1917, Harrison Co., TX. Buried in New LaGrone Cemetery in Harrison Co., TX. In the 1912 Harrison County School Census, Willie is shown living with the E. F. REEL family. It is believed there is a family connection to the Reels in Harrison Co., probably through marriage. Several Roe/Huffman/Reel marriages are found in the marriage records of Harrison Co., TX. Willie died at age 21. Family tradition holds that she was living with an older married sister (name unknown for the sister or her sister's husband) and that the brother-in-law poisoned Willie, his wife and the baby (who was nursing). Willie is buried close to her brother Horace. We would very much like to find this "missing" older sister and learn more of the circumstances surrounding their untimely deaths.
