Beginning Feb. 2, 1897, Bertha taught for 3 1/2 months in Esmond, SD school #3. In 1898 she taught that school for 3 1/2 months beginning March 28.
Her address was given as Belle Prairie Township, Beadle Co. at the time of her marriage. She was married in the presence of Lucinda Sprague and Ellen M. Snook by Frank Boher, pastor of the M.E. Church in Iroquois.
Bertha served as postmaster in Esmond from 1914 to 1919. The post office was built by Oscar Schultner on the north side of Main Street in 1915. Office hours were 8 to 12, 1-6:15 and 7-9. She was married to Walter Kenley before her term was up.
Bertha came to Pomona, California in 1919 with her husband Walter Kenley. She lived in Pomona, but moved to the Oak Grove Sanitarium 4 weeks before her death.
