Ella Townsley and the late H. M. Townsley were issued a land grant in Alberta, Canada in September or October of 1915. The land was in the NW part of Section 12 of Township 23, Range 13 west of the 4th meridian. That puts it near the town of Steveville, Alberta (about 100 miles east of Calgary). I believe they must have moved to Alberta some time before that for Hugh's name to be on the land grant when he was deceased. Shortly after that, in January of 1916, their son Hugh Dorsey, joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force to fight in World War I. This was before the United States had officially entered WW I. Hugh Dorsey's enlistment papers have a note written on them which says ``Canada 6 yr.'' (not on any official line of the form), implying they have been in Canada for six years, although they are still in Nebraska in April of 1910 for the census.
Probably shortly after her son went to war, Ella joined her daughter Ruth in Florida, as Ella is listed as living in La Belle, Florida in the Canadian military records which record Hugh Dorsey's death. I didn't see Ella in the 1920 census, but she is living with Ruth and Ruth's family in 1930 in La Belle.
