Daniel was a twin of Fenton. Daniel and Fenton had adjoining farms in Crawford Co. and both were Catholic. Daniel moved to Crawford County by 1880, when he's in the census in West Side Twp. The family is in the census for West Side Twp. in every census after that, also. His children weren't in any big hurry to get out of the house apparently, as seven of them, ages 17--31 still live with Daniel and Mary in the 1910 census in West Side Twp. Mary E., Margaret, Frances, Daniel Jr., and Loretta are still with them in 1920.
Daniel Lawler was injured in a railroad accident on the Illinois Central east of Dubuque on the way to Chicago with stock in February, 1902. In that same accident, Daniel's brother Michael was killed.
The 1920 census says Daniel immigrated in 1851 and was naturalized in 1860. That fits pretty well with other Lawler family history which explains that Daniel's parents, oldest brother, John, and oldest sister, Bridget, came to the US about 1846 and left the younger children in Ireland in care of other relatives there. This Lawler family history said the younger children, including Daniel, re-joined their parents in the US about 1852.
According to Daniel's biography in the 1978 St. Ann's, Vail, Centennial book, Daniel ``came to America with his aunt in 1854, joining his parents at De Witt. His parents preceded him to this country eight years before and made a home for their family. He moved to Westside in 1874. He purchased a farm north of Westside at this time, living there until his death.'' His obituary had the same phrasing and says Daniel moved from De Witt to West Side in 1874.
Daniel owned 160 acres, the SE quarter of Section 35, in Jackson Township of Crawford County, and 80 acres east of that in Section 36 (the south half of the SW quarter). He also owned some land in Section 1 of Westside Twp, which would be just south of the other parcels.
In 1920, Daniel owned 353 acres in Section 1 of Westside Twp.
Daniel is buried with his wife Mary and there are also small stones all in a row for his children John V., Daniel I, M. Ellen, Frances E., and an Emily Monaghan McEnov (1890-1914). I have no idea who Emily is.
