Floyd was affiliated with the Christian Church in Carlisle, Iowa in 1904. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 88th Division artillery in 1917. Later, about 1918, he was a physics teacher in Duncombe, Iowa. In 1920-1922 he was a physics teacher in Council Bluffs High School. About 1923 he was a salesman for auto supplies in Omaha, Nebraska in Nebraska and Wyoming. He later was owner of an appliance store in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.
