In Loving Memory of Our Bunny, Eddie
Let me start off by saying I miss you, Eddie! We love/loved you very much!
Eddie passed away of natural causes approximately 6:00-6:30 PM, Thursday, August 19, 1999. Earlier that morning, I had let Eddie out to get some excercise, and she did her little thing as usual, running around the garden, around my feet, and just plain outright having a normally good time. I had left the house with the boys to go up to Matthew's Parent/Teacher Meeting, at that point she was fine. When we returned, she had already passed away.
Anyway, enough of the bad stuff...onto the great stuff about Eddie!
We became proud owners of Eddie, a gorgeous Flemish Giant Rabbit, around Thanksgiving of 1998. Yes she was a girl...or so we found out on 1-14-99, when we took her to the vet for a check-up.
We were planning on making her a 3-tiered rabbit hutch. She was momentarily in a 36" x 24" rabbit cage, much happier there than in the 24" x 24" cage she was in when we got her. She was a permanent resident of our basement, and had free reign of it during the day, while I was there with her. Didn't want her "R-ing" anything she shouldn't!
We had slowly introduced her to the cats, but neither the cats or Eddie seems interested in one or the other. So we had the cats upstairs and Eddie downstairs.
Her diet consisted of Timothy Hay, Rabbit Pellets, and of course, fresh water daily. Sometimes fresh Lettuce, Carrots and Cabbage are offered to her. For a treat, she gets Romaine Lettuce! :) I couldn't wait until her first Halloween with us...I knew what to do with the pumpkins! :) Guess that won't be happening now :(
Eddie loved to flip around toilet tissue rolls and run around in the basement. It was worth it to see her little bunny tail flittering as she did so. When weather permited, Eddie was allowed outside in her cage in my garden. She loved to "mow the lawn" there. Below are pictures of her doing so! :) Most of all, she loved being in my garden and playing peek-a-boo with me between the plants. She'd romp thru the "brush", pop her head out looking for me, when I would say "Peek-a-boo", she'd dart into the back of the "brush" and hide for a second, then come back out. She loved to play chase as well. She loved it when I walked after her, she'd weave in and out of the gardens, running up to my foot, nudging me, then running back into the gardens.
Anyway, I envision her in Bunny heaven, with all of the largest fields of tall grasses. I see her romping about and playing with other bunnies in a carrot patch! So that does help with the pain a bit. "All Bunnies go to Heaven!" :)
