Our Wedding Ceremony
The Marriage Ceremony of
Karen Ann Hauserman
And
David Alexander Hay
September 21, 2002
Love is patient; love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

Greeting
We gather together in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Dearly beloved: We have come together in the presence of God to witness and bless the joining together of this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony.
Parental Blessing
Who gives this woman to be married to this man?
I do.
The Declaration of Consent
Karen; Will you have this man to be your husband; to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health; and forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live? If so, answer, "I will."
I will.
David; Will you have this woman to be your wife; to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health; and forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live? If so, answer, "I will."
I will.
Will all of you witnessing these promises do all in your power to uphold these two people in their marriage? If so, answer, "We will."
We will.
Prayer
Let us pray.
Eternal God, our creator and redeemer, as you gladdened the wedding at Cana in Galilee by the presence of your Son, so by His presence now bring your joy to this wedding. Look with favor upon Karen and David and grant that they, rejoicing in all your gifts, may at length celebrate with Christ the marriage feast that has no end. Amen.
Scripture Readings
Let us hear what the Word of God teaches concerning marriage.
Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 2:18-24
Epistle Lesson: Ephesians 5:1-2,21-33
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 19:4-6
Sermon
Hymn - #288 Hear Us Now
Vows
The Lord God in His goodness created us male and female, and by the gift of marriage founded human community in a joy that begins now and is brought to perfection in the life to come.
Because of sin, all marriages endure stress and the gladness can be overcast. Nevertheless, our gracious Lord, who established marriage, does not forsake his people in this sacred estate, but is always present, blessing and supporting these promises you are making to one another.
Karen, I take you to be my wife from this time onward, to join with you and to share all that is to come, to give and to receive, to speak and to listen, to inspire and to respond, and in all circumstances of our life together to be faithful to you until death parts us.
David, I take you to be my husband from this time onward, to join with you and to share all that is to come, to give and to receive, to speak and to listen, to inspire and to respond, and in all circumstances of our life together to be faithful to you until death parts us.
Exchange of Rings
Bless, O Lord, these rings to be signs of the vows by which this man and woman have bound themselves to each other; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
I give you this ring as a sign of my love and faithfulness.
Marriage Pronouncement
Forasmuch as Karen and David have given themselves to each other by solemn vows, and have declared the same before God and in the presence of this company, I now pronounce them husband and wife in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Those whom God has joined together let no one put asunder. Amen.

Hymn - #287 O Perfect Love
Blessing
The Lord God, who created our first parents and established them in marriage, establish and sustain you, that you may find delight in each other and grow in holy love until your life's end. Amen.
Prayer
Let us pray.
Faithful Lord, we thank you for the love and joy Karen and David have found in each other. Pour down your grace that they may fulfill the vows they have made this day and reflect your steadfast love in their faithfulness to each other. May they continue to grow in wisdom, undersanding, patience, respect, affection, and love toward you, toward each other, and toward the world. Use us to support them in their promises and life together. Grant that all married persons witnesing these vows may find their lives strengthened and their loyalties confirmed. Enrich all families making them a sign of the fulfillment of your perfect kingdom, where, with your Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, you live and reign, one God through all ages of ages. Amen.
Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and grant you peace. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I now present to you Mr. and Mrs. David Hay. You may now kiss the bride.

Tune: Joseph Barnby 1838-1986, adapt.
O perfect Love, all human thought transcending,
Lowly we kneel in prayer before Thy throne,
That theirs may be the love which knows no ending,
Whom Thou forevermore dost join in one.
O perfect Life, be Thou their full assurance,
Of tender charity and steadfast faith,
Of patient hope and quiet, brave endurance,
With childlike trust that fears nor pain nor death.
Grant them the joy which brightens earthly sorrow;
Grant them the peace which calms all earthly strife,
And to life’s day the glorious unknown morrow
That dawns upon eternal love and life.
