About the ABEL GATES family history:
This information is only a couple generations of the Abel GATES family. Enough to get from Abel to my great-great grandmother, Mary. My actual database contains the Gates family history as noted in a 1976 publication entitled "Abel Gates (1793-1870), His Ancestors; His Descendants." In that booklet, his direct line of ancestry was traced back to Thomas Gates, Esq., of Higheaster, Essex England (1327). (Some GATES researchers contend there are errors in that lineage claim.) Other than my own great-great grandmother (Mary Elizabeth GATES), I have done no specific research on the GATES family, therefore cannot help determine the truth from a good story. If there are any discrepancies here from that in above noted publication, they are typographical errors and not intended as corrections. There is no known connection to Microsoft's Bill GATES and my great-great-grandmother. (Kathryn CURTIS Martin)Always verify any genealogical information you find published on a web page. The best advice I can give you is to treat web-based genealogy as a starting point for your own family history research. Enjoy!

Endnotes
"Abel Gates - His Ancestors, His Descendants" (1793-1870), Private Publication. Printed by Dinner and Klein of Seattle in 1976 -- A great deal of work went into this publication. However, it seldom gives official documentation sources. Any data from this publication should be treated with caution. (Kathryn CURTIS Martin).
