PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Ellen DeGeneres is mulling a return to network television despite what she has called a bruising experience with ABC. The actress-comedian has been negotiating with CBS for a new comedy in which she would play the host of a TV variety show, Leslie Moonves, president and chief executive officer of CBS Television, said Sunday. The series, intended for the 2000-01 season, would focus on the character's off and on-camera life.

Showtime..."Reaching Normal" which began production on May 11. Ellen has a cameo role in it.

RING AROUND: Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche had a surprise for Ellen's mom at Betty DeGeneres' book party Wednesday. Guests at Hollywood's Book Soup tried shots of Finlandia vodka as they celebrated Love, Ellen: A Mother/Daughter Journey. Ellen told her mom that she and Heche had bought wedding rings that day. They showed off the simple gold bands (both say "wife" on the inside). The two have been together for two years. Whether they had or plan some kind of commitment ceremony remains to be seen. Mike Ovitz took time off from his efforts to gain an L.A. football franchise because he and Rick Yorn manage Ellen.

As we all thought would happen...Ellen has now signed with ICM, following in Anne's footsteps. She will be represented by Eddy Yablans, Jim Wiatt and Tracy Brennan. Ellen is managed by AMG's Mike Menchel.

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Actress Anne Heche, who has been without an agent since leaving CAA in December, has signed with International Creative Management. At ICM, Heche will be repped by Steve Dontanville and Toni Howard. Heche also recently signed with Artists Management Group, where she is being managed by former ICM agent JoAnne Colonna, who incidently was Heche's first agent when the former worked at Paradigm.

On Wednesday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m., the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), National Lesbian and Gay Task Force (NGLTF) and GLAAD, as well as entertainment figures Helen Hunt (Didn't turn up), Ellen DeGeneres, her mother Betty Degeneres and Elton John (not yet confirmed at press time) will join on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.. They will remember Matthew Shepard and renew the call for the passage of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act by Congress, which President Clinton first called for over a year ago. Elizabeth Birch, executive director of HRC, commented "There is nothing special about living a life free of violence and nothing right about opposing laws that would help remedy this situation. Those who oppose hate crimes legislation are either burying their heads in the sand or they simply don't care that thousands of gay and lesbian Americans are being harassed and brutalized each year.

Ellen will be on ABC's "The View" this Thursday, October 15th 98 talking about hate crimes following the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard. Check your local guides for viewing times.

The "CREATIVE ARTS AWARD" for the 50th Annual Emmy Awards was won by Emma Thompson for her guest appearance on Ellen.

Starting Thursday, July 30 98 at 8.30 on Fox8, Ellen will now be screened again on Australian TV starting with Ep. 1/Series 1 "These Friends of Mine"!!!! It will be repeated the following morning at 1am. ABOUT BLOODY TIME!!!
And LIFETIME (U.S.cable TV) will begin showing "These Friends of Mine" from August 17th 98..every weekday between 6 and 7pm

Ellen and Anne are the guests of honour at the September 28 98..."Help Fight For Our Legal Right to Marry" fund-raiser at the Kabuki Theatres in San Fransicso. Tickets are 50 dollars each and there will be a screening of the UK special...The Real Ellen Story.

Kate Capshaw has decided to film a new DreamWorks Pictures flick on the North Shore this summer. The Massachusetts Film Office is holding a press conference today in Rockport to announce that ''The Love Letter'' will start shooting there and in Gloucester and Manchester-by-the-Sea in early August 98. Capshaw is producing the film, which is based on the novel of the same name by Cathleen Schine. She's also starring as the 42-year-old divorced mother and bookstore owner. Ellen DeGeneres has been in talks with Capshaw about playing the manager of the bookstore...[May, 98]

EMMY NOMINATIONS... Ellen has been nominated for "Best Actress in a Comedy Series"....... Emma Thomson was nominated for Guest Star in a comedy ("Emma" episode)......... And a writing nomination went to Joe Keenan for writing the "EMMA" episode. Go Girlz!

Sharon Stone has signed to narrate Harvey Fierstein's animated HBO special "The Sissy Duckling". Also on board for the gay version of the old classic are Ellen & Anne, Andy Dick, Dan Butler, Melissa Etheridge and Harvey himself as the voice of the gay duck. (This is only a rumour at present and may even be a gag)

"The Puppy Episode" has won yet another award. This time it is the very prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, held for the 57th time... April, 98.

The series ELLEN is currently (third series) shown in Germany on channel RTL. If you a have satellite receiver and understand (a little bit),of German, maybe it will be interesting to see how Ellen is dubbed in German. Each Episode is broadcast at 00.30 CET on RTL....April 98.

"Ellen" has just started on a new channel in Denmark. Its on DR2 every Thursday night at 10.45 (gmt + 1 hour) starting from Series 4 (Puppy Show series)...April 98

Ellen and Anne celebrated their 1 year anniversary at the Oscars in March 98.

Ellen has signed up to star with Matthew McConaughey in a Ron Howard film *Ed TV* which beings shooting soon.

The season (series) one hour finale was filmed on a closed set and featured such guests as Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Jennifer Aniston, Bea Arthur, Christine Lahti, Helen Hunt and many more. It will go to air May 13, 98.

For All Ellie's UK Fans - Ellen will be the main Star at a Channel 4 celebrities-only party in conjunction to the "Coming-Out Evening". The parallels between the real Ellen DeGeneres and the fictional Ellen Morgan are about to get a little closer. ABC confirmed Monday that actress Anne Heche (Wag the Dog), romantic partner of the openly gay DeGeneres, will guest star on Ellen in an episode scheduled to air March 4. Ellen's love interest, Laurie (Lisa Darr), will be involved in a car accident. Awaiting word in a hospital emergency room, Ellen is joined by Heche, who plays Laurie's friend, and the two will comfort and commiserate with each other.

Entertainment Weekly has named Ellen the 1997 Entertainer of the Year

FUNNY MOMENT at the recent "Good Will Hunting" premiere in NYC. Writer Roger Friedman and actor Vince Vaughn ran into each other and waxed nostalgic over last year's Oscar party at Morton's, when the two of them introduced Anne Heche to Ellen DeGeneres. "We were at the making of history!" said Vaughn. Heche, who was also at the premiere, overheard this, leaned over Vaughn's shoulder and said, "Yes, you were. And thank you. Look how great everything worked out!" 1997.

On December 4th, the Indigo Girls taped an appearance on "Ellen". The episode is titled "Womyn Fest" --a spoof on Lilith Fair. Ellen, Paige and Audrey rent a camper and go to the Womyn Fest concert. Indigo Girls and Sarah McLachlan are performers at the festival. The episode will air January 7, 98.

Courtney Love has reportedly purchased Ellen's 3 bedroom house in Beverly Hills for $3,000,000. Nov. 97.

Ellen is in the December 97 issue of Vanity Fair (the one with Matt Damon on the cover) and the pics are reported to be provocative. E! showed a couple of pix but they announced that one was too revealing to show on t.v...Ellen said the pics might "shock" some people as they are not used to seeing her that way. Tho when viewing the magazine....that "third" picture has mysteriously been left off. Word it, it was of Ellen and Anne recreating that famous scene in "From Here to Eternity". [Thanks Tiger]

The filming of series 5 of "ellen" began Friday, August 8th 97. Ellen is already back in town, leaving Anne in Hawaii to finish off the filming of her movie with Harrison Ford. The first episode of Series Five will be screened on September 24th...not long now eh? ( Oh sorry....that is in the good 'ol US of A by the way.)

Episode re-runs of the sitcom "Ellen" will be shown on Lifetime commencing in the fall of 1998.

Hi everyone....By now if you live in the States, you would have already seen the screening of "The Puppy Episode". The show was wonderful, tasteful and very funny. The ratings for that show when thru the roof....a 26.5....the next closest being just over an 8. That means that 42 millions people saw The Puppy Episode, making it the highest rating sitcom for the year. Well Done Ellen!!!!!!

COMING OUT EPISODE.
Well April 30 it is! So get ready everyone! ABC Executives have okayed the hour long "coming out" episode. It has been confirmed the show will star Oprah Winfrey as Ellen's Therapist and Laura Dern will portray a gay woman on the show.
Two new celebrities have been added to feature in this star-studded episode. Melissa Etheridge will appear in the opening titles singing... and kdlang will guest star as a crooning waitress in a coffeehouse. And now even more...Demi Moore, Dwight Yoakam, Oscar-nominated actor-writer Billy Bob Thornton and Gina Gershon have appeared in a reported "dream sequence" where Ellen Morgan is in a supermarket that is having specials for lesbians. This is sounding better by the minute!

informed the audience
that Ellen had called her the night before
to ask her to be the therapist on her show
that she is going to "come out" to. Oprah
said she's doing it!

According the Reuters/Variety Summary - Ellen's character in her sitcom reportedly will "Come out of the closet" later this season. TV Guide has reported that both Ellen and the producers want her to reveal she is a lesbian. Both Ellen and her manager have not commented on this story but he did say that there had been a lot of elements over the different series that could lead to that storyline. We should find out soon though because there has been suggestions that the first nine shows of series 4 drops hints about what may be in store for that character.
