Before he became a singer, he was a runner. At St. Cuthbert's he thought 'They considered me an outcast.' He was influenced by Bob Dylan, Beatles, and Jimi Hendrix. At twenty-three he began teaching five- to nine-year old boys music and literature. In the five years he played with Newcastle Big Band, he was never late once. Worked on a blond-dyed hair for a chewing gum. Made only ten dollars, after expenses, during Laker Tour in America. BBC banned Brimstone and Treacle, with Sting as Martin Taylor. He considered giving up his acting and musical careers and becoming a therapist. In early 1982 Virgin Records used 'Don't Stand So Close To Me' for a deodorant advertisement. |
