Eric says: ****** 1/2 (6 1/2)
I decided that it was about time that I share my love of movies with my three-year-old daughter. Now she had seen quite a few videos, but not a big-screen movie that she could remember (she's been at a few, but when she was too young to know better). We headed off to see El Dorado, a colorful, light animated buddy film that I hoped would keep her interest. We both seemed to like it.
Tulio and Miguel are two adventurers in Spain right before the explorer Cortez is to set off for the New World. Naturally, the two - con-men at heart - find themselves uninvited on Cortez' ship. They escape, with the help of an animal friend, and find themselves on an island that contains the mythical city of El Dorado, a town of gold. The plan is to pilfer as much gold as possible and head back to Espana.
As with all buddy comedies, things are never as simple as they are supposed to be, as the two are mistaken for gods, one falls in love with a native, and they invoke the ire of the local shaman.
Through all of this, my daughter was attentively paying attention. While the ending contained no big surprised, the journey itself was enough to recommend this fanciful cartoon. Yes, the perfect age range is from about 7 to 12 year olds, but I can attest that 3 year olds and 24 year olds may like it, too.

David will most likely pass on TRTED.
