AGAPE MINISTRY 1997
1995 | 1996 | 1997 | 1998/1999 | Word Bites | Sites | Music |
It only seems like yesterday when the ministry of the Agape began. With 5 young musicians who wanted to bring their service for the Lord to a higher level and expand their repertoire of music. Its been 3 years now and we have grown both in numbers and in spiritual maturity. The burning desire to reach out to our peers through music still lingers in our hearts. I believe the greatest joy is to see young people and even adults coming back to the Kingdom of God through the concerts we conduct throughout the country. |
AYA Friday Nite Jam - 1997 |
"Onward for Christ and letting His love shine through" - our motto of the ministry. His love has definitely shone on the people we ministered to and on our lives. I believe when we serve God and learn to bless others with our lives and talents, the blessings and joy overflows. In Matthew 5:13-16, we are called to be the salt and light of the earth and our light is to shine before men, that they may see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven. The essence of it all is really to bring glory to Jesus in all that we do.
Our desire is also to see the ministry growing in the aspect of the Word of God, in mission and individual spiritual walk with God. Training more young musicians not only in skill but also in spiritual leadership is very much in our hearts too.
The following are just a few of the highlights of concerts for the year.
PENANG - We felt the spiritual battles at hand even as we started off the year with our 1st concert at Georgetown Baptist Church in Penang. Many of us were sick and fatigue prior to the concert and the journey to Penang was a long and tiring one. We experienced unusual engine problem to our travelling vehicles but nevertheless we made it. Gods anointing was upon us throughout the concert and 4 accepted Jesus for the 1st time and 15 more rededicated their lives back to the Lord. |
Glorious food, Penang - 1997 |
We had the opportunity to share with youth of GBC the following day. The challenge we had from the Lord for them and ourselves was that as young people, we need to stand up for what is right even if we have to stand alone. "Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim His praise in the islands -Isaiah 42:12" We are grateful for the hospitality of the organisers and not forgetting the food.
MALACCA - Prior to our 2nd outstation concert, we were very much challenged to seek God in tearing down the strongholds in the historical city of Malacca. Just as King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20 sent the worshippers out at the head of the army in the battlefield, we felt like one of those worshippers in line ready to be used by God. As we surrendered our all to God, the end of the concert saw 4 people accepted the Lord for the 1st time (2 of them adults) and about 7 rededicated their lives to Jesus. There was also a special call for serving the Lord, out of which 6 people responded to the challenge. The ministering work continued with worship at MEFC the following day. This time, the challenge was directed both at the teenagers and adult during the morning service.
KL BAPTIST CHURCH - The concert was held in the church situated directly in the heart of the city of KL. Truly a beacon in the midst of darkness. The flow of the Holy Spirit was strong. Although we had just a congregation of about 50 people, we had a blessed time lingering in the presence of the Almighty. God ministered no only to the congregation but to us too. The challenge for the youth there was to live a life of example and let their light shine bright. May their faith draw people from the streets to our Lord Jesus.
ICCF Evangelistic Concert, INTI College - 1997
INTI COLLEGE - Our 1st college concert and our 1st outdoor concert. Being an outdoor concert, naturally there was a great concern for fine weather. We joined the organisers in prayer in the afternoon prior to the concert and during that time, it showered like cats and dogs. It seemed that the harder we prayed the harder it rain. It was really a test of faith for all of us. The rain kept us in the room for more than 3 hours.
While we were praying and worshipping God during that time, I believe the heavenly realm was having its own warfare. God intervened and stopped the rain just in time for us to set up for the concert. Later that night, we realised that the rain was actually a blessing as it cooled down the atmosphere throughout the concert. 7 souls were saved for Jesus and a few others rededicated their lives to the Lord that night. God was in control the whole time. |

ST MARY SCHOOL - This is our 2nd time to this public school. There is always a great anticipation and excitement when we have a concert in a public place. It is such a blessing to see such enthusiasm in the presence of the Lord. We had the 2nd team doing the introduction, a solo dance and later on the main team concluded the program. It was a full house. The enthusiasm in the hall that day was enough to rumble the city of KL. 4 souls was saved for the Kingdom of God that day and numerous others responded to altar call. Praise be unto the Lord.
"Pharoah, Pharoah ... ooo baby ...", St. Mary's School - 1997
TTDI GOSPEL CENTRE - The setting for this concert was a bit different from the ones we had so far. We had to do without the drums because of the small hall. Nevertheless, it was a soothing time we had with the Lord. |
Taman Tun Gospel Centre - 1997 |
The Holy Spirit was ministering to our hearts even as we sang our songs to the Lord. 4 responded to the call to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour and about 10 others rededicated their lives to the Lord. |
SS Methodist Church - Our last concert for the year. A lot of effort was put in by the organisers for this concert. Although there were no non-believers in the midst but we believe Gods ministering work was done in the concert. About 15 people responded to altar call for rededication of lives. All glory to Jesus.
No words can express the joy & fulfilment we experience through all of this. God has truly blest our lives even as we serve Him. Its not always easy. There are times when we get so disappointed and depressed with the problems we encounter in our lives and in the ministry. But all this fade away when we see Jesus touching the lives of our peers and families because of our faith in Him. There is truly more to this life when we live it for the glory of Jesus Christ. The spiritual walk of obedience is a hard and long journey but our hope and joy is in knowing the fact that Jesus is by our side guiding us through. It is in the giving that we receive and it is in the serving that our souls are blest.
We are grateful to the Lord for using us in this way in spite of our shortcoming. We are also grateful to the church and individuals who has supported us thus far with their love and prayers. Special thanks to Pastor Aaron Tham for his dedication and commitment to the ministry for the past years. His passion for young people and evangelism has encouraged our hearts. He steps down as an advisor for the ministry this year. All glory belongs to Jesus Christ our Lord. We look forward to the things God has in store for all of us. We are for Christ and there is no greater challenge than to live our lives in purity and righteousness and serving the Lord with all our hearts. |
