Alien Resurrection

Cast: Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman
Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet

alien_res2_1125.jpgThe bitch is back, and so is Weaver, along with all usual alien nonsense: Scientists mess with forces beyond their ken and various ill-advised treks down scary space hallways invariably end in gore. This time, Weaver's Ripley is cloned back to life, but in the process her DNA gets mixed up with the alien's. Weaver confidently kick-ass, commando style and has an awesome B-ball scene--girlfriend can dunk! (In the movies, at least.) But her heroics are almost subverted by the cheesy, new super alien, some suspense-less action sequences and the beautiful dead weight that is Winona Ryder. Visual stylist Jeunet (Delicatessen) transforms the deep-space military vessel into a Gothic chasm of mayhem, but it's super Sigourney who saves the day.
