A Joaquin-fan emailed me the following:
"I read in the latest "MovieLine" magazine: there is an article about Gus Van Sant, and it was talking about Psycho, Gus said that he really wanted Joaquin Phoenix to play the lead in Psycho, "Norman Bates" but that there were scheduling conflicts, and Joaquin was busy, he said he hadn't even thought of Vince Vaughn for the roal, but Vince was a good friend of Joaquin, and Joaquin actually suggested Vince and introduced the two. I thought that was cool, I mean, I never knew Joaquin was actually the one who got Vince the roal in Psycho."

I just received a report from a Joaquin-fan who lives on the island of Malta, who says that huge sets are being constructed for the Colliseum and the Roman Forum, and a call has been sent out for 28,000 (wow!) extras. He wants to be an extra, so maybe we can get all the information and rumours from him.

The 8mm - page is out!! It has a really cool design - take a look. You will find there a lot of pics (Joaquin with blue hair, piercing and tattoos!), the trailer, information about the cast, a 8mm message board, the plot summary and the production notes.

"Joaquin Phoenix is just completely unique," says Schumacher, "one of those amazing young people who has extraordinary talents and facilities. But beneath that is this heart and soul. There’s something very pure about Joaquin."
A costum-designer says: “Joaquin Phoenix’s character, Max, was somebody to have fun with. He’s an underground musician who survives as an adult bookstore clerk, and the costumes have to reflect this. We did everything in vinyl: tight pants and boot, and I cut all of his t-shirts very short and got rid of the sleeves, so that we can see Max’s torso and elaborate tattoos. Joaquin really got into it, actually getting an eyebrow pierced and having his hair dyed shades of blue.”
Schumacher recalls that much of the on-set levity was created by the comraderie between Nicolas Cage and Joaquin Phoenix. “Nick and Joaquin together were just so inspired,” says the director. “They got along so beautifully, and their rhythm as actors just clicked. They were very, very funny together off-screen, and one of the biggest problems that we had on set was trying to get everybody to stop laughing. It was very contagious.”

As you maybe know Vince Vaughn is on the cover of this month Premiere-magazine, there is also a part in the article where Joaquin is mentioned:
While shooting Return to Paradise in Hong Kong, Vaughn and costar Joaquin Phoenix had planned to hit several New Year's Eve parties. But Vaughn left his shoes in a dressing room at the hotel pool, 'and no one had shoes to fit him - Vince wears Sasquatch shoes,' Phoenix says. 'So he went all over town in a killer suit and hotel slippers three sizes too small. He dubbed himself Slipperella, and kept up this routine about how someone would find his slipper and be his true love. It made our whole night. It's probably the new style in Hong Kong now.'

Liv and Let Love (from Daily News)
Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix either had the easiest breakup or they've got nerves of steel. The "Armageddon" actress enjoyed herself with her new man, rocker Royston Langdon, while ex-lover Phoenix stood just a few feet away talking to a model at the Christmas party that Michael Stipe, Jane Pratt and music exec Julie Panebianco threw Saturday night at Casa La Femme. Among the revelers: Cameron Diaz, Christian Slater, Gretchen Mol, Helena Christiansen, Lisa Loeb, Paula Cole, Stephen Dorff, Sandra Bernhard and the underage marrieds Macaulay Culkin and Rachel Miner drinking Cosmopolitans.
