Articles

-with focus on PBEM play

  • Low Countries (Word-document). Panzer General scenario hints for the Low Countries scenario by RIP. Based on experience of several multiplayer games. Allthough an old text, still valid.

  • Norway (Word-document). A discussion between RIP and Charles Leflar of the outcome of our game of Norway as a part of the PBEM campaign (see below). This article was also published by Hardcore News (Leadeaters) in a shorter version.

  • 2-player campaign Panzer General: A Primer Private (Word-document). By Lt. Stahler . An excellent article where a few of the crucial factors in the 2-player campaign is pointed out. Short, but almost to good to give all those secrets away!

  • The campaign core and AA in the campaign. (Word-document) An article based on experiences mixed from PBEM and AI play. Original by various authors. Edited and expanded by RIP.

  • Number of coreunits, prestigecount and victorylevels.(Word document) A summary of these essential data for the PGI and stand alone scenarios. Originally a plain text file that floated around in cyberspace (by various authors). Picked up and edited by RIP.

  • Crete (Word-document). Panzer General scenario guide for the Crete scenario. A good piece of work here put together by Dana Moreland. It explains both the general strategy and provides a few suggestions for nasty surprises.

  • You're a cheater! (Local link) Not really an article but merely a note about players who cheat in PG PBEM games...

    Scenario trees

A scenario tree can be most usefull for long time strategies in a campaign - especially in a PBEM campaign. Deploying successfull strategies for each scenario is important, but it is equally important for the german player to make a strategy for prestige and force composition.

Note: I may replace these with a link if anybody else has them on a webpage (anybody??).

    Panzer General II

Visitors to this page might wonder: "Why all this about an antiquated game like PGI? Why not the improved PGII???". Well, it's hard to give one answer to that question, but I'll give one indication: I bought this game in october 1997, played the BlitzKrieg campaign through to Russia, then suddenly found it immensely boring. I had a long break untill may this year when the new equipment files gave PGII new life.

A number of things make PGII slightly disappointing. The graphics are much better - no doubt - but the game play has been ruined. Especially the historical sound strategies have been violated.

If you want to play PGII, I recommend that you do get the revised equipment files (see link section) - they add a lot of value to this game.

There has been small attempted FAQ's around for some time. The best complete FAQ so far can be found at the Zerstörer

Technical notes for PGII - BUGS!

(Try reloading, looking at this section)

PGII still does have a number of bugs. Most of them are wellknown and described in the FAQ.

    Here's just one, less wellknown:

"When I try to open my PBEM game, it just says "Illegal password", but I'm at turn 1 and haven't had a chance to enter any password!???"

There's a bug in the file system that sometimes causes this. To get rid of that problem, simply go to the save directory and delete any files with the "eml" extension (you may want to do a back-up first). That should do it.
