Meet the newest addition to our family... Bella Rosa! Translated, the name means "beautiful rose" and we think it is quite fitting. We call her Belle for short. We found her at the local animal shelter when she was only 8 weeks old... she looked alot older though because of her size. She is a german shepherd/chow mix, and has great traits of both. She has the body and temperament of the shepherd, and she's fuzzy all over with a curly tail like a chow. She's just so cute! Her black muzzle is the only markings she has, and because of her muzzle being black she looks like a pug in all her puppy pictures... it doesn't photograph well at all. But now that she's getting older, you can clearly see that she most definitely looks like a shepherd! We'll try to get more pictures scanned and up on this page in a little while, so you can come back and see how big Belle is getting.
This is Belle on the day we brought her home from the shelter.
Belle is not only beautiful but smart too! She has learned how to "sit", "shake", "beg" and "speak" already, and she knows who she's supposed to protect... following is the story of how Belle saved Mom from... well, we don't want to really think about what might have happened.
Mom hadn't been feeling too well, so she laid down for a nap in her bedroom. She was awakened about half an hour later by Belle barking, but had figured she was just playing with the cats again. Then another set of barks, and a growl... such a low, menacing growl for a puppy! Yes, Belle was only three months old when this happened, but she was a big puppy.
Mom sat up in bed and could just see Belle's head through her open bedroom door... her ears were laid back and she was looking up at something.
Mom said, "Belle, what's the matter?"
At the sound of her voice, Mom could here footsteps running away from her door. She immediately got up to see who was in the house, but only got a look at the back of the man as he was headed out the front door. Belle stood beside Mom while she called the police, with a watchful eye on guard in case the intruder decided to return. Of course, everything was fine... and all because of Belle! As a reward Mom and Dad bought her some new toys, as well as a big bag of her favorite doggy bones. Though the police never caught our unwanted visitor, Mom feels safe being alone again knowing she has such a valiant protector.
Belle is a really happy doggy too! She's quick with a kiss, eager to play and makes sure the cats get plenty of exercise. She's a real bundle of energy! We like to play together, me, Scully and Belle. We play "nip the nose" and "tag the tail", and we take turns chasing each other around the house. Mom says there's never a dull moment with us around... what does she mean by that?
That's me up in the air! Belle is about three months old here.
And so life goes on in our family, and we are all very happy together. We've got so much love to share that we just keep growing. It's such a wonderful life!
