Set-up: Boy was this one close! Got to fight the second of the Doddridge brothers this time. Dwarfs, Dwarfs with a whole stack of warmachines. From memory, 3 units of Giant Slayers, 3 units of crossbow dwarfs, 1 unit of veterans plus like 5 or 6 munty characters and army standard, 1 canon, 3 organ guns, 1 bolt thrower, 2 gyrocopters. I placed a two forests in the middle of the board, this was meant to cut down the LOS for his canons, and worked with moderate success. Most of my troops were centre left - hiding behind the woods. Game: Most of the game was a shooting exchange. I attempted to skirmish and charge his crews with my Reavers and hero, but it was all a bit of a stalemate. He was too stumpy to get close to me (without being charged by 2-3 units on one), and I didn't want to march across the open ground to him. His gyrocopters did most of his damage, and I only got one spell off in the whole game, this was Tempest, and did for most of his machines. Luck factor: Nothing notable in this game, but I had some decidedly low Winds of Magic which may have made a difference (nothing better than a 6). Analysis: I think if I had to replay, I would try to get Tempest out quicker, and then run around charging his small units. As it went, I think I did have the advantage, but the number of cannons looked a bit too grim. Andy definitely did a good job of defence, there was little way to attack without sucking some big casualties, and I didn't think the Elves could take it and still fight (unlike the melee armies out there). I really should have tried for his Gyrocopters more, I didn't know how nasty there are against a T3 army! Anyway, I won by a mere 65 victory points, giving a tournament result of 15 points to me, and 10 for Andy. I thought this would bump me down a few places on the table, and hopefully mean I won't have to fight Paul's frogs... instead battles started to even out, and I am now second! Also in other games:
