Note: this is 2134 pts under 6th edition rules - not legal of course. But it shows things ain't much cheaper for High Elves. SLW Tournament army (2300 points) - For the SLW tournament (3/1/1) plus one die-roll Brief: This is a Warhammer Fantasy Battles tournament, purely for South London Warlord players. It started 28/03/2000, finished 4/12/00, and used mostly WPS tourney rules (with a few additions/mods). Great fun was had by all (hopefully), and I'm sure it helped people get both exposure to armies never before played against, and more cunning ideas. I started well, but slid from 2nd down to 5th. As the 6th round got decided by a die-roll (Mike and I missed each other from overseas travel) my big chance to jump back to 3rd place fell by the wayside :-( That's assuming I won decisively 25-5 of course... Final position 9th. It showed Paul kicked us with 140 points. Then from 3rd to 9th was only 10 points difference. Also encouraging was that I beat Richard (2nd) when no-one else did :-). Analysis: What was interesting to note was that apart from myself, the top 12 positions are all melee dominated armies (although not sure how "shooty" Norse Dwarves are). I haven't played everyone enough to know how experienced people actually are, and whether this is just a reflection on skill/army list makeup. The next breakdown is that more numerous armies did better than less numerous armies (Lizards, Skaven, Orc&Gob vs Chaos and Bretonnians), and then leadership (remember Skaven get to add rank bonus). Not sure about movement, it didn't really seem to affect the results too much, but the more static armies do seem lower down the table. On the individual battles, the Chaos Warriors were surprisingly random, but mostly did worse against faster moving melee armies. The Bretonnians did well against shooty armies, and seemed to lose to melee armies that could take a charge. Paul's Lizardmen did exceedingly well, must be that combination of ablative skink skirmishers and bad-boy melee troops, plus his steely determination of course. Need I mention my brethren elves languishing at the bottom... My "denial" tactics worked moderately well, with only the Skaven (and damn Harry's Storm Banner) ruining my shooting damage. This generally meant that once melee was joined I could pick my fights, and get decent resolutions. I had a definite problem killing people's Heroes and Generals. Though hopefully under 6th edition this should be slightly alleviated. If anyone has comments, or views on the tournament or how their battles went email me. Battle reports -
