Tournament test army (2300 points) - For SLW tournaments (2/0/0) Theory - Because you must use the same army list against whoever is next in the tournament, this has to be able to beat anything. Mainly infantry based, one stands and shoots, while the Reavers, eagles, hero and Shadow warriors harass the enemy warmachines, lone characters, or archers. These troops are also good to stop people marching (giving more turns of shooting for your bolt throwers). Finish whatever is left with the White lions and Sword masters. The mages are for magic defence, but also to throw themselves in front of potential chargers so you can counter-charge next turn). Practice - I fought (and won) against an Empire army, and also a Dogs of War army. The particular tourney rules made the Giant eagles Bound Monsters, so they were all but useless, everything else performed well, although maybe I should not have deployed my Reavers where I did. I deployed mainly to the left of the centre line, so as to concentrate my fire, the Empire was a little more spread out, with skirmishing bowmen on his right flank, 4 cannons on the left (plus his general on a griffin), flagellants protecting a unit of knights, with some halberdairs on its left, and crossbowmen on these knights right. His main tactic was to get his was to advance his knights, and halberdairs (flagellants covering knights), with everything else shooting. I won first turn, and had my eagles, hero and shadow warriors attack his cannons, while the Reavers went after the big mass of bowmen, everything else stood and shot. I managed to overwhelm the cannon crews, while my Reavers managed to break the skirmishers - causing a fantastic chain reaction that (eventually) caused most of the Empire army to flee. His General swooped down upon my poor White Lions, so I sacrificed the mage to his challenge, and the counter-charge by the Sea Guard caused him to flee! Not the result I wanted. by the time the General had rallied it was all over, with most of his army either off the table, fleeing, or dead. Result - I did about 1900 points of damage, and controlled 2 table quarters, Empire killed about 350 points. Kick arse! In the Dogs of War game I crushed his right flank, causing multiple units to flee, and causing a general rout. Not much more to say really.
