Environment Action

This page is to alert people to Environment Actions around Australia, as well as international campaigns. I believe it is my responsibility as a Pagan and Wiccan to care for the Earth our Mother and all creatures upon Her in whatever way possible. If I am to honour Her in ritual, then how can I not take care of Her? Some of the ways we can help:

* to recycle our glass, paper, cans and plastic;
* to grow organic food;
* to create worm farms and permaculture gardens;
* to reduce our waste by buying unpackaged goods;
* to reduce the quantity of chemical products we use in our homes and on the land or use none at all;
* to purchase energy efficient appliances and where possible convert to solar energy;
* to send money to Environment Organsations.

Some of you might want to be a bit more pro-active, and take part in demonstrations, rallies, blockades and other actions aimed at saving our planet or some small part of Her. This page is to help you do that. It's new and therefore there's not much on here, but you can help it grow by sending information to me.

If you know of any Environment Actions or Campaigns that do not already appear on this page, please e-mail me, Lilitu, with as much information as you can provide. This page will be updated as often as possible.

NORTH EAST FORESTS ALLIANCE BLOCKADES:
There are likely to be a number of forest blockades around NSW, organised by the North East Forest Alliance. Details will appear on this page ias they become available. Also, please go to the site of the Nature Conservation Council of NSW: http://www.nccnsw.org.au/
At this NCC site you will be able to sign an e-mail letter to the Permier of NSW - Bob Carr - protesting the devastation of our old growth forests by the logging industry. You can also find out more about the campaign organised by the NEFA. If you live in Bellingen or the Bellingen Shire of NSW, you can hear an update every Wednesday morning at around 9.40am, on my radio program on 2BBB-FM - 93.3 or 107.3 on the FM dial.

The blockades at Mount Yarrahapini and at Clouds Creek State Forest were successful in ending the logging when negotiated agreements were made between the NEFA and the State Forests. It is possible that there will be another six or seven blockades in areas north of Sydney, NSW. Keep watching this space.

BLOCKADE AT TIMBARA GOLD MINE
Help is desperately needed to help stop production at the Timbara Gold Mine. For more information, until the story is up here, call the Big Scrub Environment Centre in Lismore, or the Byron Bay Environment Centre. Both organisations are listed in the telephone directory for Northern NSW.
