RESEARCH OBJECTIVES


Suphan Buri Field Crops Research Center (SFCRC) has a mandate to conduct research and development in sugarcane and sorghum, according to the policy of Field Crops Research Institute Department of Agriculture (DOA). The responsibility of the center includes the following aspects:

To conduct research and development on mandated crops. These crops are sugarcane, sorghum and local tobacco. Research and development programs are based on the co-operation among the various disciplines which may recall as multi-disciplinary studies. The cooperation may be tied with other institutes or other divisions within DOA or other organizations in Thailand as well as the international institutes.

To conduct research and development on other economically important field crops in the region of responsibility. These crops are corn, cotton, soybean, mungbean, castorbean, sesame and cassava etc. The programs aim to solve the production problems for specific regions.

To develop a suitable technology for field crops production according to local socio-economic conditions. The technologies should be easily adopted and ready to transfer to farmers.

To transfer knowledge obtained from research and development programs to other researchers, extension workers, farmers and interested people. Various forms of transfering are used including training, seminars, workshops, field days, publication, leaflets and demonstrations. The activities will be closely co-operated with extension workers and the private sectors.

To produce foundation seed or clonal propagation materials. Breeder seed, which is genetically pure and true to type of varieties, will be produced and advanced to form the foundation seed. Foundation seed will be sent to the Department of Agricultural Extension to produce a good quality multiplication seed to distribute to the farmers.
